Week of June 28 2026

This week's news at a glance

Jennings Elizabeth Allen will be baptized this Sunday — and Sunday afternoon, we're gathering in the park for Come to the Table.

From Pastor Tim

This Sunday, we will do something ancient and beautiful. We will baptize Jennings Elizabeth Allen.

Her parents, Jules and Maddox, will bring her to the font. We will pour water. We will speak her name. And in that moment, something real will happen.

I know some people wonder about infant baptism — whether it "counts," whether a baby can truly be baptized. I want you to know: it is as real as any baptism ever performed. Baptism is not primarily about what we do. It is about what God does. And God is fully capable of acting on behalf of a child who cannot yet speak for herself.

In the Methodist tradition, we understand baptism as a means of grace — one of the ways God moves toward us before we even know to move toward him. Jennings Elizabeth cannot confess faith today. But she can receive grace. And that is exactly what will happen at that font Sunday morning.

The congregation has a role in this too. We will make promises — to surround this child with a community of faith, to pray for her, to help her grow into the faith into which she is being baptized. That is not a formality. It is a covenant.

Come ready to witness something holy.
