OPEN OUT - CULTURAL DIVERSITY WITH BILL MILLAR

Following worship on Sunday February 17th.

Hi folks here's a bit of information from our first 'Open Out' session - where we explore how we as individuals and as a church can become more open to folk who are somehow different than us - culturally, racially, economically, as well as orientation, etc.

The Which Face is Lighter? exercise is a way for us to begin to see how our unconscious processes/biases impact how we think, the assumptions we make.  The Cultural Iceberg is a visual way of seeing how much of our cultural identity is hidden, not easily observable to the eyes and ears.

The Church Privilege Questionnaire helps us glimpse how privilege works. The Church Angels  is just a fun way of imagining the 'personality' of Ralph Connor Church

Join us this Sunday after worship for more explorations!  Also check out

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Children's Church and Toddler care for Sunday Services are key ways that we support the faith development of children, and hospitality to young families.

Children may go to Children's Church after the first hymn and return later in the service in time for the anthem.  We are making a couple of adjustments to the Sunday service to give a bit more time for the Children's Church lesson, and a bit less back-in-the service time.

Easy to lead lessons are ready for use, in the upstairs cupboard.

Please sign up on the Sunday clipboard to help!

LIVING SPIRIT UC PRESENTS "BARE" A POP OPERA

This will be held February 15 - 23 in Calgary. Bare: is a coming-of-age musical that follows a group of teens as they wrestle with their identities, sexuality, religion, and even a little bit of Shakespeare, in a co-ed Catholic boarding school. This musical presents an incredibly relevant story in Alberta's cultural and political climate, with impactful themes such as peer and family rejection, acceptance, and what it means to be yourself.

This show is not only a powerful story that everyone can enjoy, but it is also an incredible platform for local emerging artists to tell relevant stories and practice their craft. In light of the relevance of this piece, we are looking to invite various Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to further empower community building within the arts, queer, Calgary community as a whole through the medium of musical theatre.

The subject matter is raw, and the company suggests that it is suitable for teens and adults 15 years and older.

INTERCULTURAL CHURCH SURVEY

Share your views! Can you spare a few minutes for an important new survey from the United Church? We want to know how the church is doing at becoming intercultural.

Our intercultural vision calls us to be radically welcoming, living together with a respectful awareness of our diversity. We are hoping for input from all the varied voices that make up our church. Reflect on your experience of church, good and bad, and offer suggestions for the future. The survey is open to anyone who is a part of a United Church congregation or community of faith.

You can find the survey online until February 22. Your experiences and suggestions are important for us! Please consider participating, and encourage others in your community of faith to participate as well.
