SUPPORT MARY SHEARER IN THE ALVIN DIXON RUN

At the United Church General Council I will be running in this event. The Alvin Dixon Memorial Bursary Fund supports multi-year academic education programs for Indigenous students.

Alvin
Dixon was  a Heiltsuk First Nation Elder born in 1937 near Bella Bella and raised in the traditional way by his Grandmother. At age 10, Alvin was taken to the Alberni Indian Residential School. In 1956 he was one of only six First Nations students to attend the University of British Columbia. Alvin was a strong activist. Within the United Church he served on the general executive, was a founder of the Native Ministries Consortium and the native ministries program at UBC. He died in 2014.

You can contribute online (see below) or give me funds directly. Online indicate that you are supporting Mary Shearer in the Alvin Dixon Run.

LET OUR TRUE COLOURS SHINE

Kathryn Dorrell writes in a blog post marking Pride Month, "The United Church must never stop shouting our openness from the rooftops.

We must never stop drawing the circle wider, acting on that divine nudge to find the next barrier to compassionately break down.

We must all play a role in ensuring that anyone who walks up the drab, or colourful, steps of a United Church is radically welcomed."

Read the full blog post and take a look at our  Pride celebration worship resources.
