ONGOING MINISTRIES

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Unfortunately, our plans to accommodate Bill Millar, our Sabbatical Supply minister, for the months of March and April have fallen through.  We need accommodation for Bill and his Bernese Mountain Dog, Finn for 7 weeks in March or April.  

If you can help for all or part of that period, please contact Ian Schofield,
Joy McMann or Donna Kennedy as soon as possible.  

On Sunday, January 13,  Bill will be in Canmore and attending Sunday service and the Soup and Bun lunch sponsored by the Worship Committee.  

Please help us extend a warm Canmore welcome to Bill.

Children's Church and Toddler care for Sunday Services are key ways that we support the faith development of children, and hospitality to young families.

Children may go to Children's Church after the first hymn and return later in the service in time for the anthem.  We are making a couple of adjustments to the Sunday service to give a bit more time for the Children's Church lesson, and a bit less back-in-the service time.

Easy to lead lessons are ready for use, in the upstairs cupboard.

Rehearses the second and fourth Monday of each month from 7:30 - 9:00 pm in the sanctuary. Threshold Choir singing is described as "kindness made audible". 

Threshold Choir resumes on January 14th.

CYAN is back at it!  

Monthly Games Night will be held at Good Earth on Tuesday, January 8th from 6-8pm.

Weekly Wednesday Yoga at the Opera House resumes on January 9th from 7-9 pm.

As noted toward the end of 2018, the United Church of Canada is in the midst of a significant restructuring.  Presbyteries and Conferences ended on December 31, 2018 and Regional Councils began on January 1, 2019.  Basic information about our new Region is found at  https://albertanorthwestconference.ca/26945-update-from-chinook-winds-region-2/  and if you would like to sign up to receive email updates from the Region, just ask Greg and he will forward you the link!

An Invitation to Common Ground

Travis will offer perspectives on two World Views, the Western Christian world view, and the Cree (Indigenous) world view. He will explore these world views in the contexts of space, time, family, and life. He will also outline a convergence of the two world views that will help the church and society journey together.

Travis will also discuss "social cohesion" through the lens of the Cree understanding of authentic being, in relation to oneself, to one's community, and to the land on which one lives. This is achieved through kiskinowasihta, which translates as "listening carefully"-not just with your ears, but from that deep centre of one's heart, mind and soul-so that you are transformed by what you have heard.

From the 5th century, there has been a distinctive spirituality developed in the Celtic nations by leading figures in religious movements and by lay people. Though allied to and part of the catholic church, the Celts had a greater fondness for the incarnation which they regarded as the key to how we relate to God, to each other and to the physical earth. John Bell, a noted worship leader and hymn-writer from the Iona Community in Scotland, will be leading this Calgary event .
