NEWS & EVENTS

The recent death of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States (1977-1981) and Nobel Peace Prize laureate (2002), gives us an opportunity to recall a momentous day in our parish history. On January 26th, 1983, former President Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter visited our community. Joined by Mr. and Mrs. Alex and Marie Manoogian and Father (now Archbishop) Paren Avedikian, amongst other community members, Mr. and Mrs. Carter met with students and staff of the AGBU Manoogian School, toured our church, and attended a reception in the main hall. Below, please enjoy a few photographs of their memorable visit from the St. John parish archives, as well as a link to a PDF with coverage from the February 1983 issue of the Torch Bearer.
