Club meeting 9-22-2020
We have not been able to meet face to face, but we are grateful that technology has allowed us to stay in touch. Our club has responded to covid health concerns by following guidelines to be safe and prepared to handle whatever comes next.

  • President Lindsey called our meeting to order and we were so excited that new member Christina Jones could join us tonight. That makes 12 new members this year.

  • We have been busy helping out at United Way with a PPE assembly project for individuals and families! Photos will be coming at the conclusion of the project.

  • Calling all Literacy Buddies! It's the beginning of a new program year! The Literacy Buddy Program is actively looking for volunteers to join up. Due to COVID-19 they have modified the program into a no-contact program. They are encouraging volunteers to utilize the post office, or easy-to-use online ordering platforms -- such as Amazon. If ordering from Amazon, please use their Amazon Smile link. Amazon Smile donates 0.5 % of all eligible purchases back to our program. Ready to sign up? Contact: Tallie Tidwell, Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida (239) 935-6186 (direct) (239) 935-6100 (general) tallica.tidwell@elcofswfl.org

  • We received a nice thank you letter from Children's Network of SWFL for the 20 handmade fleece blankets we made for foster kids.

  • Bill Grant checked in, he and his wife Shara should be back in town this week.

  • Dick Arndt also checked in and wishes everyone good luck in the new Kiwanis year.

  • Our next "5th Tuesday" is this Tuesday Sept 29th. See Lindsey's email with invite details. We'll be having a service-social, end of the year event at United Way 5pm or come when you can!
Links for meetings will be sent out weekly. If you don't want to participate on Zoom you can just call in and be part of it. Speakers and other activities will be incorporated into upcoming meetings. You can use your computer, tablet, or mobile device. Steve Hess has volunteered to help talk you through it, just give him a ring.

  • Club dues: LAST CALL Annual club dues are for the year October 1, 2020-Sept 30, 2021. Due date for your check to be received is Sept. 30. Payment instructions are on the invoice.

  • Share your good news!! Send pics and some good news to Kim for upcoming newsletters.

Excerpts from President Lindsey's remarks at our annual installation

I like to think of our Kiwanis club as a puzzle. Who or what are the pieces of the club? There are the officers and board, committee members, Sponsored Leadership Program advisors, social media and speaker chairs, project leads and organizers, club members and their families. All of these people or pieces are important for the bigger picture of serving the children of the world. One piece alone can not make nearly as great an impact. But when all of the pieces come together a beautiful picture emerges. For us that picture is the impact we make on our community.

This year we were able to make a difference. We were able to participate in Pine Manor Trunk or Treat, Children's Advocacy Center Rescue Runway, Breakfast with Santa at John Hopkins All Children's, bell ringing for The Salvation Army, Meals of Hope food packing, and so much more. Financially we supported causes in our community including but not limited to March Of Dimes, Pine Manor, Military Support Group, Learning For Life, and Reading Pals. We also continued 5th Tuesday Social events, completed service projects during lunch meetings, conducted our club's first Zoom meeting, celebrated our 40th anniversary, distributed atlases to elementary students, honored students during BUG ceremonies at three schools and read with students at Orangewood.

As my year comes to a close, I want to thank you all for being a much needed piece of our club. Together we have accomplished so much. Thank you for entrusting me this year. It has been a provide and an honor to serve as the 2019- 2020 President.
