Important BOSL Information

The Nominating Team (Rob Lansing, Dave McLean, Jessica Landon (Chair), and Pastor Michael (ex officio) is pleased to report the nomination of two persons for the Board of Servant Leaders: Patty Bryant and Jennifer Douglas. The Congregation will vote on these two nominees at the Voters Meeting on June 1.

Patty Bryant and her family joined Prince of Peace in the summer of 2009. Since then, she has served on the Board of NOVACO (as the PoP representative), on the Senior Pastor Call Committee which called Pastor Michael, and for several years on the Care and Outreach and Personnel Committees. Patty and John have four children and one son-in-law. All four children were confirmed at Prince of Peace and their daughter was recently married at Prince of Peace.

Jennifer Douglas has been a member of POP since 1985. She has served the church community in many capacities including reader, school board member, board member, call committees and nurture and care teams. Jennifer currently serves on the Love In Action committee and participates in a Sunday morning grow group. She retired from federal service last summer and lives in Fairfax Station.

A Message from the Board of Servant Leaders (BoSL)

Regarding Proposed Changes to the Constitution & Bylaw

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Just as the Apostle Paul urged that “all things should be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40), we believe it is wise and faithful to periodically review and strengthen the foundational documents that guide our shared life in ministry. In that spirit, the Board of Servant Leaders is bringing forward proposed revisions to our Constitution and Bylaws, as part of a broader and ongoing review of how we operate. As you may recall we recently updated the Policy Manual, but it has been nearly 20 years since the Constitution and Bylaws of Prince of Peace were last updated.

Annual Voters' Assembly

The Board of Servant Leaders invites you to our annual Voters' Assembly on June 1, at 4pm in the Sanctuary. Childcare will be available. Voting will take place for the annual budget, updating the church Constitution and bylaws, and BoSL members. You must be a confirmed member to vote. Email BoSL@poplc.org if you have questions.

Worship Ministry Updates and Dates

From Pastor Michael

Dear Prince of Peace Family and Friends,

Every Sunday, the Holy Spirit gathers us together to KNOW GOD through worship. In these divine services, we receive His gifts of grace, encouragement, community, and empowerment for life. As I reflect on this past year, I am deeply grateful for how the Lord has guided our worship and for each of you who have stepped up to serve during this interim season without a full-time Director of Worship Arts.

Today, I’m excited to share some important updates and dates regarding our Worship Ministry.

Introduction to Allison Schweitzer

Incoming Director of Worship Arts at Prince

Let's welcome Allison Schweitzer, our new Director of Worship Arts! Please bring a gift card from any of the following places: Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Farmers Markets, Target, Kohl’s, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Trek Bike Shops, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or any Garden Store. Feel free also to include a welcome card for Allison. You can drop off the gift cards in a labeled basket in the church office.

New Adult Sunday School Study on Revelation

Every Sunday at 9:15 am next to the kitchen

Have you ever been curious about the Book of Revelation? Many find it puzzling or intimidating, but it’s ultimately a message of hope. Prince of Peace is offering a new class starting this Sunday at 9:15 A.M. to explore Revelation in a relaxed setting, with no homework or set duration. Join us next to the kitchen, bring your Bible and notes if desired, and uncover the powerful truths of this often-overlooked book. We look forward to seeing you there! Contact Arla Albers for more information.

Grab one of the yard signs at the welcome center and put it in your yard to help us spread the word about our awesome school!

Outdoor Ascension Day Service

at St. John's on May 29

Ascension Day occurs forty days after Jesus' resurrection, as we read in Scripture (Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-11). An informal, outdoor worship service with Holy Communion will celebrate our Lord's ascension into heaven on Thursday, May 29 (Ascension Day) at 7:00PM at St. John's Lutheran Church (5952 Franconia Road Alexandria, VA 22310). Please bring camp chairs from home for seating and park in the lower lot. The service will be held near the firepit where the cross is located. In the event of inclement weather, the service will take place in the Fellowship Hall.

Donate Your Used Books

You will notice the big green book donation bin in the front parking lot facing Old Keene Mill. Your books will be put back into circulation and the proceeds of the sale will go to help finance the youth trips this Summer. What a great way to share those books that you have loved and bless others with them again.
