SED President, Rev. Dr. Bill Harmon, Visits POP!
Tomorrow, November 24th, we are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Bill Harmon as our esteemed guest preacher for both worship services. He will grace us with an enlightening overview of the Southeastern District, sharing insights into its mission, vision, and ministries during our Sunday School hour. We kindly invite all to demonstrate their support, by gathering in the Fellowship Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 AM, and attending a worship service.
Rev. Dr. Bill Harmon is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended Emmanuel Lutheran School and Baltimore Lutheran, now Concordia Preparatory School. He then attended Concordia College, New York, and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. President Harmon
earned a Doctor of Ministry degree emphasizing leadership, renewal, and coaching from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
In May of 2022, Pastor Harmon was elected the 14th President of the Southeastern District - LCMS. His focus as President is Immeasurably More. Placing our present and our future in a God who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ever imagine or think (Ephesians 3:20-21).
President Harmon is married to his wife Gayle and they have three sons together.

As in years past, our family honors veterans by sponsoring wreaths for Wreaths Across America. If you'd like to participate this year by sponsoring a wreath, or by volunteering, you can go to our page linked here: http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/VA0234
Our default location is the United States Military Academy Cemetery at West Point, but if you'd like to choose a different location to sponsor/volunteer, there is an option this year to choose from over 4000 locations that participate. The deadline to sponsor wreaths is November 29th.
Thank You!

Annual Holy Comforter Quilt Sale!
Thursday, Nov. 14th - Dec. 20th, 2024
| |
It’s that time of year again – our annual PoP Holy Comforter Quilt Sale! We have a charming selection of quilts available for purchase in the narthex, along with specialized pillowcases and a few table toppers. This year, we are excited to offer two raffle quilts:
- The large quilt, named Kaleidoscope Colors (blue), measures 101”x101” and is queen size.
- The child’s quilt, in pink and white, is called Vintage Hand Embroidered Animal Kingdom, measuring 36”x57”.
| |
Raffle tickets are priced at $5 each, 3 for $10, or 7 for $20. Please note that larger tickets correspond to the queen size quilt, while smaller tickets are for the child’s quilt. Make sure to select the correct size ticket for the quilt you desire, as both are truly stunning.
The drawing for the raffle will take place on December 20th, and winners will be notified by phone. Please remember to pick up your raffle quilts before Christmas. Proceeds from this sale will support our efforts to purchase supplies for creating quilts for World Relief. Many of these quilts provide comfort to individuals using them as mattresses on dirt floors, while others have been distributed to flood victims.
Join us for this wonderful event, and happy shopping!

Hypothermia 2024/25
Prince of Peace will be supporting hypothermia shelter this year December 29 to January 5. For those that may be new to PoP’s involvement here is a quick background. The program is a cooperative effort between FACETS, Fairfax County, and faith community partners. The four shelters in Fairfax County are insufficient to serve the nearly 2000 women and men who are homeless in the County. FACETS has partnered with faith communities and the County to prevent hypothermia through providing overnight shelter during the winter. For each day hosting will begin at approximately 5:00 PM and finish around 7:00 AM the next morning. The week-long effort begins on Sunday evening and extends through to the following Sunday morning. In addition to PoP volunteers, Facets provides on-site staff each evening. The estimated number of guests each evening varies but can be up to 35. Each host church is asked to provide a hot dinner each evening, morning breakfast, and to keep on hand bags for non-perishable items so those guests who do not go to a day center or other program can have a meal. Please consider helping us "Serve the World" and sign-up today!

Update on the Worship Minister Search
The work of the committee is chugging along! We have received some nominations from the congregation and other sources, and we have posted our job listing with many worship-oriented ecclesiastical organizations, including the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM); Worship Arts Leadership Institute (WALI); Concordia, Valparaiso, and other Lutheran universities; Yale Institute of Sacred Music (ISM); LCMS Southeastern District (SED), and various other paths, including social media and personal connections.
Despite this exposure, we are not satisfied with the number of prospects in our pipeline, so please keep those nominations coming and, above all, keep our search in your prayers!
Our goal is to issue a call (Minister) or extend an offer (Director) on this position in this coming Spring of 2025. However, we also know that our Heavenly Father will provide us the Worship Leader we need in His time and with His purpose.
Thank you for your continued support, patience, and prayers.
Patrick Maloney
