SOCIAL ACTION - VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

https://www.stvincentdepaul.net/news/gift-ice-cream

Friends:

The link here is an account of an occasion where SVDP was the recipient of a large donation of ice cream that allowed for a festive and enjoyable treat for the guests who eat at the Phoenix Dining Room run by St Vincent De Paul. Try if you can to imagine the pleasure that a gesture like this is capable of generating. Something that so many of us take so easily for granted is truly special for so many and has the enormous power to send the message that somebody cares. Remember that feeding the hungry and helping those in need is holy and sacred work.

After a very successful and well attended CK( Sunday morning August 6) volunteer session, I am delighted to report that much enthusiasm was expressed to continue doing this kind of social action work as congregation members. I feel confident that CK volunteers will have opportunities to participate again when scheduling permits. This is because Sundays are naturally very popular days among volunteer groups, many of which consist of people who work Monday to Friday. There are ample volunteer opportunities of various kinds available but coordinating schedules is a challenge I am navigating to see what is possible. Please let us know if you have interest and time available to volunteer during the week. I will be reporting back on new scheduling opportunities to the congregation as soon as I have concrete details.

As an aside, some of you have voiced interest to do volunteer work on your own, in addition to congregational group work. For anyone who wants to do this, please let us know and we will be happy to help you make this happen. That is the kind of initiative that demonstrates commitment to Jewish values and displays leadership qualities that strengthen our Kehillah. On behalf of Rabbi Bonnie Sharfman, Chazak, Chazak, V'nitchazek. which means from strength to strength, may we be strengthened.

As always here, please contact me with any questions or suggestions regarding any of this.

Remember "Mom" and the other women!

Reminder: There are hungry neighbors and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the Valley, throughout the year -- even if we can't always see it. Our food collection bin for Mom's Pantry is always in our lobby, and our Kehillah Cares bag for women4women tempe is in our ladies' room.

Please bring food and toiletry donations whenever you attend an event or services.

Dear Friends,

It has come to our attention that once again scam emails are being sent out to various synagogues, from someone claiming to be a member of their board of directors, requesting gift cards.

Please know that Congregation Kehillah’s board members, staff, and committee members will not email any requests for gift card purchases or wiring money.

If you have a question as to the validity of an email, please forward it to us at info@congregationkehillah.org so that we can confirm.

L’Shalom,

Renee B Joffe
