CKYA - Jewish Young Adults....
Hello 2023
The 2023 calendar of events is here!
Can you feel it? That blank slate, new year feeling? We hope everyone had an exciting new years eve celebration! We enjoyed seeing much of you for Mazelpalooza and New Year's Eve Shabbat. Our community members celebrated a milestone in 2022 - new jobs, new friends, engagements, weddings, new homes, and so much more! We are just in awe of all that you do and accomplish. We can't wait to see what's in store for everyone this next year!!
Speaking of which, we have a new totally TOP SECRET Shabbat series. We're doing something fun and quirky to start the new year off! Each month we will join together for a Shabbat service or meal and then head to check out a local **hidden** speakeasy. The locations will only be disclosed to those who RSVP by the deadline set before the event.

We have a few exciting events ahead of us that we hope you will enjoy!
⭐ Monday, Feb 27thJewlyweds D.I.Y. Mezuzah Making for newly married (within 1-3 years of marriage) and engaged couples.

⭐ Monday, March 6th- Watch your peers put on a hysterical Purim Spiel to the tunes of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (a little "who loves you pretty baby" and "let's hang on to what we've got") and enjoy a Hamantaschen happy hour.
⭐ Join us for St Patrick's Day for the third installment of our Shhhhbat Speakeasy Series.
Lastly, I wanted to give a quick shoutout to one of our INCREDIBLE members, Aleeza Kaplan who is now the official 🤘 Phoenix Community Hub manager 🤘 for the organization OneTable. OneTable provides funding and empowers folks (21-39ish) to find, share, and enjoy Shabbat dinners, making the most of their Friday nights.
If you have an interest in hosting a Shabbat dinner for your peers, please reach out to her at [email protected] or sign up at OneTable.org. More details to come on this opportunity!

We are looking for some people who are able to do cook meals for a congregant and their spouse at this time. There are several dietary restrictions and those will be provided to you once you respond that you are able to help out. Please email Renee, [email protected] for more information. Tzedakah: We all have choices as to who or what we wish to support; why choose your synagogue? Because we are YOUR synagogue. You chose to be a part of this inspirational community that offers a wonderful teacher and spiritual leader in Rabbi Sharfman; superb opportunities for young families to educate their children; programming for all ages; and much, much more,  offering impact and value, depth and meaning to your life.

Unlike most synagogues, Congregation Kehillah does not do a High Holy Days Appeal. Dues alone do not cover a synagogue’s operational expenses; we rely on donations of all sizes throughout the year. Did you know . . . that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an Aliyah (honor) during a service. Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much [as] or more than the recipients." You can find out more about the roots and practices of Jewish philanthropy at Learning to Give. We hope you choose to continue to support your Kehillah by making donations to our various funds, which are listed below and on our website.

COX AND JLTV

Jewish Life Television, the nation’s premier 24-7 English language, Jewish-themed television network, is now available to Cox Communications' subscribers on Cox Channel 184 in Greater Phoenix.

More cultural than religious, JLTV welcomes viewers of all faiths to enjoy its high quality programming, both original and acquired, including Fauda (ranked the 8th best international series of the 2010s by The New York Times), Prisoners of War (ranked the #1 best international series of the 2010s by The New York Times and the inspiration for Showtime’s Homeland) and Servant of the People (starring Ukrainian President and Time Magazine’s Person of the Year Volodymyr Zelensky).

At a time when we are seeing soaring antisemitism, JLTV entertains, educates, and informs its multi-faith audience about the Jewish cultural and religious experience in the United States, in Israel and around the World, through programming across multiple genres, including cooking, children’s, classics, comedy, drama, exercise, history, inspiration, lifestyle, news and talk, travel and so much more.

Dear Friends,

It has come to our attention that once again scam emails are being sent out to various synagogues, from someone claiming to be a member of their board of directors, requesting gift cards.

Please know that Congregation Kehillah’s board members, staff, and committee members will not email any requests for gift card purchases or wiring money.

If you have a question as to the validity of an email, please forward it to us at [email protected] so that we can confirm.

L’Shalom,
