TORAH TALK

Saturday, January 15

10:30 a.m.

via Zoom

We will be studying the fourth parashah in Exodus – Beshalach,Exodus 13:17 – 17:16

Pharaoh changes his mind about freeing the Israelites and chases his former slaves. With the Egyptians on the Israelites’ tail, God splits the sea and Moses leads the Israelites through it. When the Egyptians enter, God closes the waters, and the Egyptians drown. Miriam leads all the Israelite women in song and dance to celebrate. Soon after, the Israelites begin to complain about life in the desert. God provides quail and manna to feed them. The Israelites battle the Amalekites and win.

Please join us via Zoom at 10:30 am. Renee will send out the link as we get closer to our scheduled date.

PLEASE RSVP to Ellen.

There is a very nice commentary that can be found at https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/children-of-nachshon/

It conveys more of the legend that Rabbi reminds us about each time we sing Mi Chamocha.

SOCIAL ACTION

FROM THE SIMON WEISENTHAL CENTER...

A congregant shared this global antisemitism ‘top ten’ summary from the Simon Weisenthal Center. It is of great concern, something we all should be aware of, and encourage us to support organizations local (ex: Jewish Community Relations Council) and national (ex: ADL, Simon Weisenthal Center) and our synagogues who are at the forefront of safeguarding Jews and Jewish life, learning and values.

Mom's Pantry logo.jpeg

Now that we are holding YEP! and some services at the synagogue once again, please remember to bring your non-perishable, non-expired food and toiletries donations. There is a Mom’s Pantry bin as you enter the building.

If you would like, you can also donate to Congregation Kehillah Social Action and one of our committee members would be happy to do the shopping. And remember, if you order through Amazon Smile, Congregation Kehillah will receive a percentage of your purchase allowing you a double mitzvah!
Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to make arrangements for pickup or dropping off your donations. I can be reached at 602-363-3009 or paulettefraenkel@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Paulette Fraenkel - and your Congregation Kehillah Social Action Committee

CK TEEN TZEDEK PROGRAM

You have an opportunity to support our CK Teen Tzedek Program, which is under the direction of Rabbi and Ian Shore and keep your funds within our synagogue family. Your monetary donations will be donated to an organization chosen by the Teen Foundation Board. Ian and Rebecca Shore have matched donations already received and donated $2000. Donations to the Teen Tzedek Program are always welcomed.
  • Post Bar/Bat Mitzvah students are learning about the mandate to do Tikkun Olam.
  • They are now serving as a Foundation Board seeking to address environmentalism.
  • They are putting out RFPs (requests for proposals) to organizations, soliciting applications for funding – in other words, that WE would be offering one or two significant grants, based on these same organizations applying to and interviewing with our teens to receive funding to further their mission. Interview dates have already been scheduled.
  • You can send a check to our mailing address on Tatum Blvd, or use this link, https://congregationkehillah.org/product/donation/ and choose “Teen Tzedek Fund” (last on the dropdown list)

Summer 2022 just got a whole lot better. Teens can take $3,000 off an Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI-JNF) summer program! AMHSI-JNF is a proud partner and grantee of RootOne, a new initiative that helps connect thousands of Jewish teens to Israel by lowering the financial barriers to participation in immersive summer trips to Israel.

Remember "Mom" and the other women!

Reminder: There are hungry neighbors and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the Valley, throughout the year -- even if we can't always see it. And there are women who can't afford basic feminine products. Our food collection bin for Mom's Pantry is always in our lobby, and our Kehillah Cares bag for women4women tempe is in our ladies' room.

Please bring food

and toiletry donations whenever we are able to come back to Kehillah.

For now, please consider giving directly to Mom's Pantry, which accepts donations on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are located at 13440 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix. Call 602-992-0083 for other times.
