HIGH HOLY DAYS

Dear Friends,

Gemar chatimah tovah! It was wonderful to see so many of you all of you at Rosh Hashanah services whether in person or via Zoom. Rabbi and our choir did a fabulous job and we are looking forward to sharing Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur with you.

****It is important to us that you please confirm your reserved seat with us by Monday, October 3, at 3:00 p.m. We had many no shows on Rosh Hashanah and those were seats that we could have been filled with individuals we may have had to turn away. I appreciate those of you who did let me know ahead of time that you weren’t able to attend.

Please don’t shy away from in person services if you are concerned about parking. We had plenty of spaces for everyone. Thank you to everyone who carpooled or met family and friends at Coolwater Church and brought one car to our parking lot. We encourage you to please do the same for Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur morning services. Afternoon should not be a problem.

Machzorim: Returning members should have a Machzor at home (white is Yom Kippur), from past two year's online services. We encourage you to write your name on the cover, and put it in your car so you will have it for all services. We have a limited number of Machzorim at the synagogue, which will be provided to new members. Family service will be on a Power Point, and you will not need a Machzor. Thank you in advance.
Here is the schedule for services:
Kol Nidre – Tuesday, October 4th at 6:45 p.m.
             **************
Yom Kippur – Wednesday, October 5th
Family service at 8:45 a.m.
Main service at 10:45 a.m.
Please remember to bring your donations for Mom’s Pantry and put them directly into their vehicle

Break at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Yoga - Need a little R&R during this spiritual time? Join Madeline Sherman, a certified 200-hour yoga instructor for a beginner yoga practice with a concluding meditation. We will relax and unwind with a gentle yoga flow class (movement) and then reflect on our past year from this place of calm. Bring your own mat or blanket.

Torah Study on Forgiveness - Guided discussion with Madeline Sherman on these essential questions:
  • Is forgiveness important?
  • What is our current relationship to forgiveness and how does it play out in our relationships?
  • How can engaging more fully in the practice of forgiveness help to create more vibrant relationships with ourselves and with others?

Afternoon service, YizkorNeilahHavdalah and final Shofar blast begins at 3:00 p.m.
All are encouraged to attend and we are excited, Gd willing, to resume the experience of giving private time before the open Ark during Neilah. It is a wonderful and meaningful tradition at Congregation Kehillah.
We will have Yizkor Books available for members attending in person. For those of you who joining us via Zoom for Yizkor, here is the Yizkor Book for you to download and use either on your computer or print it out,

Tzedakah: We all have choices as to who or what we wish to support, why choose YOUR synagogue? Because we are YOUR synagogue. You chose to be a part of this inspirational community that offers a wonderful teacher and spiritual leader in Rabbi Sharfman; superb opportunities for young families to educate their children; programming for all ages and much, much more offering impact and value, depth and meaning to your life. Unlike most synagogues, Congregation Kehillah does not do a High Holy Days’ Appeal. Dues alone do not cover a synagogue’s operational expenses; we rely on donations of all sizes throughout the year. Did you know . . . that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an Aliyah (honor) during a service. Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much [as] or more than the recipients." You can find out more about the roots and practices of Jewish philanthropy at Learning to Give. We hope you choose to continue to support your Kehillah by making donations to our various funds, which are listed below and on our website.
