Stallions in the Spotlight

Congratulations to Lauren Akainyah and Ruth Tesfay for both receiving a $500 grant from the Black Catholic Ministries of Columbus. Both young women received this grant based on their academic achievements and essay submission.

Due to his love of reading and books, senior Justin Braun recently met with Rachel Muha, the founder of the Run the Race Club in downtown Columbus, to  understand the club's needs, and discussed thoughts on refurbishing the existing library and establishing an outdoor reading area.  After speaking with Rachel, Justin presented his service project for funding to the 15 adults comprising the Good Samaritan Council at St. John Neumann. He coordinated with another parishioner to provide an overview video of the Run the Race organization, and then presented the project. St. John Neumann agreed to fund his service project for $1,800, and even want to take it a step further to add laptop computers/technology to the library project.   *Next week watch for an article in the Weekly DeTales about how some of our student-athletes made a difference for the children at the Run the Race Club as well!

SFD Kitchen Staff Position Available

Mass Appeal, our cafeteria service provider, is in search of a cafeteria worker for the kitchen at DeSales for prep work and line serving. Should have some food service experience. Please call Rhonda at 614-596-3038 if interested.
Volunteer Opportunity for SFD Students

St. Matthew PSR program is in need of youth volunteers to help in their classrooms on Sunday nights from 6:00 to 7:30. This is a perfect way for students to get service hours, while sharing their faith with the youth of St. Matthew's parish. Opportunities are available for all grade levels.

There are also a few opportunities to work with autistic students. Ideally the high school student working with their special needs youth would have extra patience and a creative/think outside-the-box approach. High school students that are considering going into teaching would get good experience.

If interested, please contact Sherry Schoenstein, PSR Coordinator, at 614-471-2067 or sschoenstein@stmatthew.net.
Daily Reflection

Lord Jesus, when I come to You in prayer, pleading because the time seems long, please be with me for the distance, and help me bear the pace. When I am burdened or suffering and need to lean on You, if not strength, then in my weakness, give me humility and grace. When I fail to understand obstacles appearing in my way, help me not to miss the markers leading to a better place. When I feel weary from trying, becoming discouraged or afraid, inspire me, guide me, and hold me in Your loving embrace. Amen.
