Have you ever thought you heard a voice and yet no one around you heard it? It seemed so clear. Often we wish all of the Spirit’s promptings were as clear as what Simeon kept hearing:
“Simeon, Simeon... now is the time.”
I can just hear him asking his friend, Joshua,
‘did you hear that?’ His friend looked at him incredulously;
‘Simeon, that is the second time today you have asked me that? Friend, are you losing it?’
A couple hours later, alone, Simeon heard that inner voice again...
“It is time, Simeon, go to the temple!”
Simeon pulled down his precious scrolls containing the words of the prophet Isaiah and read:
The spirit of the LORD shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
His delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
or decide by what his ears hear; but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the
rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
With bowed head and arms extended towards the heavens he asked, "
Yahweh, is this the time? We have waited so long for You to live among us. Waited for one to come to set us right...for so long."
No other words came. Following the promptings, he ran to the temple.
Blessed are the ones who hunger and thirst. Waiting, longing for peace on earth. So many disappointments. So much “fools gold.” As I sit and ponder this scripture I understand this hunger. You and I are part of this message for our time. We hold in our hearts the message. Is it our time to be the message?
