Welcome to the Revised Common Lectionary.
Join us as we journey through the church year.

Saturday, Nov. 4 through Friday, Nov. 10

Opening Prayer: Eternal and holy God, in Jesus Christ you promise us life everlasting with you in the great feast which has no end. Stir up in our hearts love and compassion for all who mourn, trusting that you will one day turn our mourning into dancing. Amen.

Consider: Consider this theme for the week’s text.

On this day when we remember all the saints of Christ—those who have passed and all of us who live in Christ—we are reminded of the promise that our reward will be great in heaven, thus we are invited to rejoice and be glad here and now.

Read: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding of the weekend’s texts.

Saturday, Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37; Joshua 2:15-24; Matthew 23:13-28

The weekend of November 4 and 5, Revelation 7:9-17; Psalm 34:1-10, 22; 1 John 3:1-3; Matthew 5:1-12

Monday, Psalm 128; Joshua 4:1-24; 1 Thessalonians 2:13-20

Tuesday, Psalm 128; Joshua 6:1-16, 20; Acts 13:1-12

Wednesday, Psalm 128; Joshua 10:12-14; Matthew 15:1-9

Thursday, Psalm 78:1-7; Joshua 5:10-12; Revelation 8:6-9:12

Friday, Psalm 78:1-7; Joshua 8:30-35; Revelation 9:13-21

Reflect and Connect: Reflect on the following questions; connect in conversation with others.

  • What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?
  • Who have you lost that still hurts? Who can you reach out to for support?
  • What are God’s promises for us after death?
  • For the littles: Have you ever lost a loved one? How do you feel? It’s ok to be sad when someone dies. It also ok to be ok.

Do: By acting on what we learn, we make God’s word come alive. Do the following activity this week.

Find out who in your congregation has lost someone close in the last year. Make a plan to visit with them or bring them a gift during the holidays. Let them know they are not alone.
