God's Got Your Back
by Kathy Beck
Are you seeing viruses on every surface, shying away from contact with people? Rest assured you are not alone. My husband came home from the supermarket to report that the aisles were packed and the shelves were empty. We are living through an unsettling period, when there are too many unknowns and too few reliable guidelines.
We can take a deep breath and calm down, my friends. We serve One Who is always present and always reliable. As the Psalmist assures us, “You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime, the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon.” (Psalm 91:5-6) We are not exempt from illness, of course, and we had still better sing “Happy Birthday” twice when washing our hands. But there is no need to follow my brother-in-law’s tongue-in-cheek advice, “When in doubt, scream and shout, wave your hands and rush about.”
More time at home than usual? Clean out a closet; read a good book; call a friend and share a joke; pray for someone you dislike. And always remember: God’s got your back.
