District News

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) recognized the Mt. Lebanon School District for excellence in budget presentation with the Meritorious Budget Award for the 2023–2024 budget year. This is the 29th year in a row ASBO has recognized the District with this distinction.

ASBO International’s Budget Award promotes and recognizes the best budget presentation practices in school districts. Participants submit their applications and budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents.

"Districts that apply to the MBA or Pathway to the MBA programs recognize the importance of presenting a high-quality, easy-to-understand budget internally and to the community,” ASBO International Executive Director David J. Lewis explains. “By participating in the programs, not only do districts have access to the tools and resources they need to communicate the district’s goals and objectives clearly, they demonstrate their commitment to upholding nationally recognized budget presentation standards.”

Congratulations to the District’s Director of Business Rob Geletko and his team for their excellent work!

Mt. Lebanon High School’s “Little Lebo” preschool program is accepting applications for our Spring program which will run from March 11th through May 29th. The children will meet Monday through Thursday from 9:15 am until 10:40 am. This program is an especially great opportunity for children who may not be ready for full-time preschool. Our program offers unique learning experiences in places such as the Wildlife Biology Room, Dance Studio, Percussion Room, the “Mind Den” mindfulness space, and our commercial cafeteria kitchen. Children who have turned three by January 1, 2024, and who will be no older than four years, and six months of age on March 1, 2024 may apply. All children must be fully potty trained. Enrollment is limited to ten children and acceptances are on a first come, first served basis. The total cost is $75.00.

For more information, please contact the secretary, Angie Mack at 412-344-2023.

Pictured are five students that make up our international students program. They are studying at Mt. Lebanon for either a semester or the entire year.

At an event before the Thanksgiving break, each student shared a presentation about their home country including information about their hometown, favorite foods, cultural sites, and schools.

Students participating are Mariana Negreiros Landi from Brazil, Davi Piantavinha Neto from Brazil, Matteo Lagona from Italy, Marco Panasyuk from Italy, and Yusei Nakai from Japan.

On Tuesday, November 14th a group of 19 students from Mt. Lebanon High School attended the 36th annual Faraday Lecture at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland.

Through a series of demonstrations, Dr. John Williams and the Kiski Science Society presented and discussed a variety of scientific principles. The purpose of these annual lectures is to inform and inspire future generations of scientists.

Bridget Jones and Peg Meyers presented at the American Council for Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) national conference and the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association (PSMLA), respectively.
