District News

At the Board of School Directors’ meeting held on November 13, the Board voted to approve the Mt. Lebanon Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. We would like to thank the entire negotiation team for all of their hard work during this process. Their early mornings and late nights did not go unnoticed.

We are pleased to have reached an agreement with MLEA which provides for wages, which keep Mt. Lebanon competitive, and will allow us to continue providing a premier and comprehensive educational experience for our students and families, in a financially responsible way that is fair to our taxpayers.

The Agreement contains wage increases, increased health care contribution by association members, and updating language in several areas including leaves, professional development, academic reimbursement standards for use of compensatory time, preparation time, flexible learning, and extra duty remuneration (EDR).

Following the ratification of this contract and the completion of a signed document, the contract will be posted here, on our website, under the Human Resources section for community review.

We are thankful for the outcome of the negotiation with Mt. Lebanon Education Association and are excited about the opportunity to continue the initiatives and strong partnership we have with one another. There is no doubt that our District is one of the premier Districts in Western Pennsylvania and the Commonwealth due to the people who are dedicated to the betterment of our students, and community.

This Agreement reflects the valued relationship we have with the MLEA and we look forward to continue Building on the Success of our Past, while Forging a New Future.

At a board meeting held on November 13, the Mt. Lebanon Board of School Directors, in a unanimous 9-0 vote, appointed Dr. Joseph R. Sciullo as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education for a five-year term, subject to Board approval of a final Employment Agreement. He will replace Dr. Marybeth Irvin, who retired earlier this year. Mt. Lebanon School Board President Jacob Wyland stated, “Dr. Sciullo comes to us with a vast knowledge base from his time in administration in both Virginia and Pennsylvania, spending the last several years with a well-regarded comparator school district in our region. The board is confident that with Dr. Sciullo joining the team, it will only strengthen the central office team as they continue to tackle the agreed-upon goals of the District for the 2023-2024 school year.”

Dr. Sciullo is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education with the North Allegheny School District. He began at North Allegheny in 2018 as the Director of Student Services. Prior to his tenure at North Allegheny, Dr. Sciullo served as the Student Services Director for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit #7, Director of Special Education at Riverview Intermediate Unit #6, and an Assistant Principal, Special Education Supervisor, and Special Education Teacher with the Chesapeake City Public Schools.

“I am incredibly honored to be selected as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education here at Mt. Lebanon School District. As the interview process progressed, I became further inspired by the work of the District and its commitment to excellence.” Sciullo said. “I look forward to learning more about what makes each of the seven elementary schools unique and what unites them while focusing on the standard of excellence throughout the District. I am eager to build connections with my colleagues on the central administrative team, principals, faculty, staff, students, families, and community members throughout the coming weeks.”

Dr. Sciullo earned his doctorate and master's degrees in education from Old Dominion University and holds a special education supervision certificate from the Pennsylvania State University and a superintendent’s letter of eligibility from the California University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sciullo earned his bachelor’s degree in special education from Clarion University.
