Inclement Weather Notifications and Procedures

As a reminder, in the event of a two-hour delay, the following student arrival times will be implemented:

  • High School: 10:00 a.m.
  • Middle School: 10:00 a.m.
  • Elementary School: 10:30 a.m.
  • AM Kindergarten: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • PM Kindergarten: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

When emergencies such as weather conditions or power failures require the delay or closing of school, notice is given as early as possible after collaboration with the facilities department.

When conditions require a school delay, closing, or remote instruction, you will receive a notification from our Phone Alert System. Information is also announced on the website at www.mtlsd.org, District social media (Facebook, Twitter), and local cable TV stations. Typically, when school is canceled, after-school and evening activities are canceled, but always check the website for up-to-date information.

The best way to be alerted to changes in the school schedule is through the District's Phone Alert System. You can receive an automated phone call to the primary phone number you have listed in Dashboard. The success of this system depends on accurate contact information obtained from school records. If your information has changed, please update your contact information in the Dashboard or ask the building secretary to update your files.

As a result of a cooperative effort involving the Mt. Lebanon School District, the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, and the PTA, Go Zones were created near the entrance of each elementary school where drivers can drop off and pick up children in the safest and most efficient way possible.

The success of the Go Zones requires compliance by drivers dropping off children before school and picking up children after school. Maps on our website reflect the parking, traffic patterns, signage, and location of crossing guards for each school.

Published on our website are safe walking rules from the Mt. Lebanon Police Department. They are:

  • Never step into the street from between parked cars.
  • Watch for turning cars
  • Look all ways before crossing
  • Obey traffic signals
  • Walk - Don’t run!
  • Allow yourself plenty of time
  • Cross only at corners
  • Face traffic when walking on streets without sidewalks
  • Be extra alert on days when it is snowing or raining
  • Go directly to and from school
  • Have a partner to walk with if possible
  • In the event a student is approached by someone when walking, they should do the following:
  • Do not approach the car
  • Immediately run to a safe place
  • Inform parent or adult of the incident
  • Contact the police
  • Try to give a good description of the individual and the vehicle
