ILLNESS REMINDERS

Mt. Lebanon School District Health Services Department utilizes the Allegheny County Health Department's “Guide to Infectious Diseases for Schools and Daycare Centers” and information from the CDC when determining if an employee should be sent home for illness or disease and when the employee should return to work after an infectious illness.

An ill employee may not be able to participate in classes in a meaningful way. Staying home when ill helps to prevent the spread of illness in the school community and allows the person an opportunity to rest and recover. Please utilize the following guidelines when determining if you are well enough or not to attend work:

● Acute cold/cough - where you are unable to function or concentrate at work

● Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea - you should be free from vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to work

● Temperature of 100 degrees or above - you should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication to return to work

● Contagious illness - such as strep throat - conjunctivitis - any illness or disease process that the use of an antibiotic is required - you should be on the antibiotic for a full 24 hours prior to returning to work

● Suspected contagious disease/rash

● The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that “people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are symptom-free.”

COVID

● If you display any COVID-19 symptoms or are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test, please stay home until a diagnosis is confirmed. Please notify Deanna Hess.

● If you are COVID-19 POSITIVE, please notify Deanna Hess and follow the CDC protocol for quarantine. You will need to remain at home for 5 consecutive days with the onset of

symptoms or a positive test (if no symptoms), being Day 0, and returning to school/activities on Day 6 with a recommendation to mask for 5 days after returning (days 6-10) according to the CDC guidelines.

Please notify your school nurse of any positive COVID test results and/or any contagious illnesses.
