You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind…You must love your neighbor as yourself
Matthew 22: 37, 39
These words, spoken by Jesus, serve as the rationale for the mission of the United Methodist Church – To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We do this by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and by exemplifying Jesus’ command to love God and love others. This ministry of love has been both a gift and the task of the Church since her beginning,
That has never changed.
They way we embrace and embody that ministry, however, is constantly changing and evolving. “Doing” and “being” church today is very different from 20, 10, even 2 years ago.
I want to invite you to enter into conversation with each other and me about how we understand our task to proclaim the gospel;
- to welcome and gather persons into the body of Christ;
- to grow in spiritual maturity;
- to serve with grace;
- and to send people into the world as servants of Christ.
We are offering three opportunities to spend about an hour in prayerful reflection and discussion about the ministry and mission of Epworth UMC. We will listen and brainstorm and begin to plan a path forward for the coming months. The remaining dates and times are:
Tuesday, October 1 - 6 PM;
Sunday, October 6 - 6 PM.
You’re invited to attend one or all. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and discovering where God might be leading us!
