Warriors of the Week
Each week through this year we will recognize several of our students through our "Warrior of the Week" award. Students receive this award for displaying effort that goes above-and-beyond our expectations -- reflecting their drive to achieve personal and academic growth. This week's Warriors of the Week are:

Ava A.
This week in Mohican, Ava has been welcoming to all of the kids, has had a great attitude, and showed great leadership throughout the week! Thanks Ava!

Ava D.
Ava always has a smile on her face and shows great leadership. She includes peers and things of others.

Emma L.
Emma has really shown dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm for her academic learning. This week she has collaborated well on her class projects with her peers. Emma also shows initiative to get work done in a timely fashion. She leads by example. Way to go Emma!

Nina J.
Nina is so friendly and outgoing, and is a bright light in the classroom. She is a
positive influence on those around her. Thank you Nina!

Student Progress Text Messages
You will soon begin to receive automated text messages that summarize your student's academic progress.  The messages give you tips on how best to speak with your child when it comes to the nitty-gritty of their learning tasks here at school, so that you can best support your student in their learning at home.

Parents will receive, on average, 2 messages per week that are triggered by their own child's academic calendar and performance.  Messages are available in English and Spanish.

Here's an in-depth overview of what you can expect from the messages.

If you do not wish to receive updates on your child's academic progress via text messages, please email support@fairview.k12.oh.us by October 15.

You may also check your student's academic progress through the Parent Portal at any time. If you do not know your login information, contact your child's mentor teacher, or email support@fairview.k12.oh.us to request it.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions .

Thank you.
Personalized Learning Platform FAQ
When looking at your child's page on Summit, a helpful view is the "Progress" tab, on the left side of the screen. This is a snapshot of feedback from your child's teachers.
In the center "Activity" section, you'll be able to see what has been submitted, comments/feedback from teachers, when your child took an assessment, and notes from their mentor teacher. On the left under "Courses", you'll find their courses and what their current grade is, etc. You can click on a course and it will give information re: how many projects are overdue, what they've completed and if they're on pace to complete their Power Focus Areas, and if they've completed any Additional Focus Areas.

Keep in mind that Additional Focus Areas are additional, but make up 9% of the grade, so will allow them to get an A. Without the Additional Focus Areas, getting that A will be much more difficult.
Testing Information
MAP benchmark testing round one is complete! Two more administrations will take place throughout the school year. Grade level Math and ELA teachers will be happy to provide you with specific dates and information.

Ohio State Testing will take place in the spring. These tests are extremely important for your child's long term success. It is never too early to begin getting ready!

See some ODE preparatory resources here and general test prep resources here .

Fairview Park PTA Council Reflections Art Program
The Ohio PTA, through National PTA, holds an annual cultural arts program, Reflections. Children in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit original works of art in six areas: literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography, film production and music composition. The Reflections program allows PTAs throughout the state to recognize children for their creativity as they reflect on the yearly theme. Teachers, parents, children and community can get involved in enhancing arts education though the Reflections program. The Reflections Program is one of the best examples of the PTA's ability to bring out the best in our youth. PTA strongly supports education in the arts. It is about creating educational excitement and involvement within our schools between parents, teachers and o ur kids.

Students can enter Reflections® in the following grade divisions - Primary: preschool-grade 2, Intermediate: grades 3-5, Middle/Junior: grades 6-8 and Senior: grades 9-12. They may submit works in any of the six arts areas: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual arts, Dance Choreography, and Film Production. Special Artists can submit entries in any category. Our Reflections program begins at the local level, advances to PTA Council level, then to State for judging. The State winners of the Award of Excellence are then advanced to National PTA.

This year's theme is " Heroes Around Me." All students that wish to participate in the Reflections Art Program need to fill out the entry form and return it along with their original artwork to their school office by November 1, 2018. All participants will be invited to an Art Show to view the masterpieces created in January. Questions can be emailed to Angie Cause at angiekleincause@yahoo.com. Good luck!
