Worship

Have you ever been to a party where the food ran out?

Or were you the host and afraid of hitting the bottom of the bowl?

I recall our first dinner party as newlyweds, when we invited several student couples to our one-bedroom apartment. When I thought I had enough dishes to share with friends, my husband thought I needed to cook more. My mother-in-law had a “big hand” when she cooked and set the table. She always had plenty of food, with a generous portion. My husband grew up watching her host many dinners at the parsonage as a pastor’s wife. To his measure, my hand was comparably small. He worried there wouldn't be enough.

So I added one, then another, and one more to my original menu. Reading my cookbook - yeah, at that time Youtube videos were not available - and cooking the whole day, I was steaming on that hot July summer day without an AC. When everyone had their fill and left, I was relieved. “Whew!” I had successfully hosted my first open house party!

We begin the first Sunday of Lent with John’s gospel, where we find Jesus not in the wilderness being tempted by Satan but at a wedding banquet. Who was getting married? Why were Jesus, his mother, and his disciples there? What does this first miracle story in John signal to us about who Jesus is and what the gospel really means for us? Join our in person worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. You can watch the live-streamed service at home as well via the church website or Youtube channel.

Click here to sign in your attendance on the website. If you have joys or concerns to share, please submit them with your attendance record. It's important for us to know you were with us and stay connected in prayer.

Lenten devotional and prayer cards are ready for pickup at the lobby table.

Take them with you this Sunday and

use them as your companion for the Lenten journey.

You can also receive online daily reflection through the church Facebook page. Please click here to follow and like!

Warm Your Heart Bake Sale

Sunday, Feb 22

Following Service

Attention, rev up your ovens and dust off your soup pot, the 3rd annual Warm Your Heart and Soul Bake Sale is getting closer! Sunday, February 22nd is the date. Tired of baking? How about donating a meal basket? For example, a jar of pasta sauce, box of pasta and rolls or bread sticks in a basket for a meal? One year we had dried, canned and frozen soups, bread, corn bread muffins and much more. Also baskets of chili, chicken casserole and pasta meal ingredients. Let's get creative! We also will take traditional baked goods - cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc.

Lent Study

The Last Supper: Conversations That Led to the Cross

Wednesdays at 10 a.m. beginning March 4

You're invited to travel with Jesus on the road to Jerusalem in this Lenten study that explores the parables and stories Jesus told at tables along the way to his final meal. Will Willimon asks readers to experience how these table stories―about searching shepherds, welcoming hosts, prodigal sons, and rejected invitations―illuminate the deeper meaning of the Last Supper and Christ's sacrifice.

Ryan's Case for Smiles is a national volunteer organization that provides handmade whimsical pillowcases for children to help them cope with the stress of their illnesses and injuries. Cindy Kerr began making pillowcases for her son Ryan to brighten up his hospital room and put a smile on his face. Although Ryan is no longer with us physically, his legacy lives on in Ryan's Case for Smiles. There are over 100 chapters in the United States & Canada and over two million pillowcases have been delivered.

A new Western Suburbs chapter (Kane Co & McHenry Co, IL) has recently been established. We will be delivering bright, fun pillowcases to Ascension St. Alexius Women & Children's Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, and Lurie Children's at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley. The Ryan's pillowcase pattern is available at:  caseforsmiles.org

If you are interested in sewing Ryan’s Case for Smiles whimsical children’s pillowcases for hospitals in our area, please contact Jean Jaderborg at 815-508-0497
