Dear Church Family,

“Hurry up and wait…” How many times have we done that? Meeting someone for lunch? We often have to wait. Going to an appointment? You get there and wait. It seems life is all about waiting.

Our scripture this week will be from Isaiah 40:28-31.  One verse in this scripture says, “...those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength.” So now we even have to wait for God?

In some sense, yes, we do wait for God to act. We pray and wait for answers. We plant seeds of ministry and wait to see if the fruit grows.  Being a disciple of Christ involves waiting! That part is certain.

How do we know when the waiting is over? How do we know when God has acted? How do we know when our prayers have been answered? Sometimes, it feels we wait longer than we’d like when in reality all we need to do is pay attention.  Sometimes as we wait, God works in still, small ways, and we need to be open to God reaching us in unexpected ways.

This week’s sermon will address these issues. We will talk about waiting…and more importantly…Paying Attention!

Blessings!

Pastor Tom

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR OFFERING FOR THE PASTOR'S AID FUND AT THE ALTAR RAIL DURING COMMUNION THIS SUNDAY

In January 2023, Community Care Collaborative (CCC) assisted 3 individuals in 1 household with past due rent totaling $840. This client has a son who has Stage IV brain cancer. She had to take an unpaid leave of absence at work to travel to Atlanta, GA while they await a new clinical trial for him. We are so happy to have been able to help catch her up so she could focus on her family and not worrying about being evicted!

Our giving to the Pastor's Aid Fund at Hertford UMC helps support the CCC and those in our county who need a helping hand. Please consider giving the first Sunday of each month during communion.

Join Us For Fellowship

Our 5th Sunday Fellowship in March falls on Easter so we are getting together a little early. Join us for a Pancake Supper on Fat Tuesday, February 13 at 6:00 PM. The men of the church will be our hosts for the evening. Dinner will include pancakes and Layden's sausage. Thanks gentlemen!

Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras, and Shrove Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. It's a day of festivities, often associated with indulgence in rich, fatty foods and celebrations. The name "Fat Tuesday" refers to the tradition of consuming these indulgent foods before the fasting period of Lent begins. Pancakes are a common food associated with Fat Tuesday in some cultures because they use remaining rich ingredients including milk, eggs, and sugar.

SMALL GROUP STUDY

Please join us for a four week Bible study, “I’m Waiting, God. Finding Blessings in God’s Delays”, in which we will explore stories of women in the Bible who had to wait on God. If you or a loved one have ever felt impatient because God isn’t giving you what you want, their stories will bring you hope. The study sessions will begin on Thursday, February 22 at 4 pm in the Fellowship Hall and lead by Ruth Lacefield. Please let the office staff know you are planning to attend so a study guide can be ordered for you.
