Sunday’s Message:     “Alive in Christ”

Sunday’s Scripture:    Colossians 2: 6 - 15

“Alive in Christ”

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness

>>>>>The Lectionary Epistle Text for Sunday comes from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae, a city in Asia Minor. It is around 60 years A.D. 30 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection and Paul’s conversion to Christ. Paul has been on at least three missionary journeys, has planted several churches and is now in a Roman jail awaiting trial. It is towards the end of his life.

>>>>>Paul had never visited Colossae. Evidently the church had been founded by Epaphras (4:12) and other converts from Paul’s missionary travels. The church, however, had been infiltrated by religious relativism, with some believers attempting to combine elements of paganism and secular philosophy with Christian doctrine. Paul confronts these false teachings and affirms the sufficiency of Christ.

>>>>>Paul writes to this young, new church to remind them what God has done for them in Jesus Christ and what God is calling them as his followers to do which is to be fully committed, to be rooted, built up, established and abounding in their journey of faith with Jesus.

>>>>>Receiving Christ as Lord of one’s Savior is the beginning of life with Christ. But one must continue to follow Christ’s leadership and grow in this journey with God. This is called “sanctification” meaning, “set apart”. We have been set apart for the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in our lives as we yield ourselves to God and allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us.

>>>>>David Iverson’s beloved 100 year old hymn says it like this:

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me

Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me,

Spirit of the living God, fall a fresh on me.

>>>>>Join me Sunday in person or live streaming as we ask the Holy Spirit to melt, mold, fill and use us for his glory!

>>>>>Grace and Peace

Message:                             “Alive in Christ”

Scripture:                          Colossians 2: 6 -15

6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

13When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

THE RESTORATION PROJECT

Week 4

The Restoration Crew has finished the plaster and repair work in the sanctuary and fellowship hall. They will have areas "cleaned up" by the first of next week. Integrity Cleaning is scheduled for cleaning the sanctuary on Tuesday, August 2.

We will be getting the word out for help to move things back into the sanctuary after August 2.

We have also contracted with the restoration crew to finish painting the rooms in the educational building this week.  They began painting Thursday morning and plan to be finished by Saturday.

"We could not have asked for better professional service than William and his crews! They certainly worked with us, went beyond and we got a deal!"  - Sara

Be sure to check the weekly Email/Enews for updates.  As soon as we have a date to move back into the sanctuary we will let you know! You can continue to help with this project by designating funds to the Restoration Project.

IT'S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY COLLECTION TO SUPPORT PQ SCHOOLS

Our Outreach Ministries Team is once again partnering with Perquimans County Schools to collect school supplies for our students here in the county. We will be collecting the items listed above to help support the students as they get ready to go back to school. Please bring your items to church NO LATER THAN JULY 31 so we can get them to the schools as soon as possible. There will be a box outside the church office for your donations.

We appreciate your support!!

Stephen Ministry is a team of laypeople doing one-to-one, distinctively Christian caring with those going through difficult times in life. The care is completely confidential. We know no one wants to admit they need help, but no one other than you and your Stephen Minister will know that you are having discussions. Difficult times in life constitute many things and times we all go through. Why go through it alone when you can have a person at your side to help carry the load. We are here to serve you and will be by your side whether you are lonely, ill, having problems at home, or grieving.

The Stephen Ministry team looks forward to helping you. The team consists of Carroll Harrell, Susan Winslow, Carol Kuhn, Ruth Lacefield, Kay Whedbee White and Jean Ashley (temporarily on leave of absence). If you want to know more about the ministry or need help yourself or know of someone who you think needs help, please contact one of the Stephen Ministers.
