Sunday Message: "God in Three Persons"

Scripture:                        Romans 5: 1 - 11

TRINITY SUNDAY

>>>>>This Sunday is designated as “Trinity Sunday” in which we will celebrate and give thanks to God for our Trinitarian understanding of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday falls on the first Sunday after Pentecost, which is the 50th day after Easter. The day honors the descent of the Holy Spirit on Jesus' apostles and followers. Trinity Sunday, in its essence, celebrates the mystery of faith and unity on and of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Christian history explains Trinity Sunday in this way.

>>>>>“The first Trinity Sunday was instituted in the 9th century by Pope Gregory IX. However, it wasn’t until the 14th century that Trinity Sunday was officially established. Amongst other festivals, Pope John XXII was of the vision that Trinity Sunday should be celebrated by all Western Churches to commemorate the Holy Spirit’s descent as well as Christians’ appreciation of the Holy Trinity. Eastern Churches argue that celebrating the Trinity should be done every Sunday, and while Western Churches are of the same view, the latter has still designated a special day to commemorate this. Unlike other Christian festivals, Trinity Sunday celebrates a doctrine instead of a figure or an event. Belief in the Trinity and God’s three distinct forms is a matter of complete faith and trust. Therefore, on Trinity Sunday, Christians take part in showing their love for and faith in the Trinity by praising and giving glory to God.

TRINITY SUNDAY

Sunday’s Message:                          “God in Three Persons”

Sunday's Scripture:                                    Romans 5: 1 - 11

5 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we^[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, ² through whom we have obtained access^[b] to this grace in which we stand; and we^[c] boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. ³ And not only that, but we^[d] also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, ⁵ and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. ⁶ For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. ⁸ But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God.^[e] 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. ¹¹ But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Holy Communion this Sunday June 12th.

TO THE FELLOWSHIP HALL

The restoration work in the sanctuary will soon begin! In order for that to happen we will be "relocating" our worship services to the FELLOWSHIP HALL beginning on SUNDAY, JUNE 19. We anticipate being in the fellowship hall for 4-6 weeks.

Our worship service will continue to be streamed live on Facebook each Sunday. Please plan to enter through the glass doors by the church office (Dobbs Street) or the double doors on Covent Garden Street (ramp access is available at this entrance).

Stephen Ministry is a team of laypeople doing one-to-one, distinctively Christian caring with those going through difficult times in life. The care is completely confidential. We know no one wants to admit they need help, but no one other than you and your Stephen Minister will know that you are having discussions. Difficult times in life constitute many things and times we all go through. Why go through it alone when you can have a person at your side to help carry the load. We are here to serve you and will be by your side whether you are lonely, ill, having problems at home, or grieving.  

The Stephen Ministry team looks forward to helping you. The team consists of Carroll Harrell, Susan Winslow, Carol Kuhn, Ruth Lacefield, Kay Whedbee White and Jean Ashley (temporarily on leave of absence). If you want to know more about the ministry or need help yourself or know of someone who you think needs help, please contact one of the Stephen Ministers.
