Sunday Message: "I Believe in the Church"

Scripture:             Acts 2: 41 - 47

“I Believe in the Church”

>>>>>As I write this e-news article our lay delegate, Rich Lodge, and myself are preparing to leave to attend the 2022 North Carolina Annual Conference that will be meeting in Greenville, N.C. This is the first time we have met since 2019. There will be around 2,000 Pastors and lay delegates from all around the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church gathering to conduct the annual business of the Annual Conference.

>>>>>Each year Pastors and lay delegates meet for four days to hear reports from various ministry and mission committees and teams, pass budgets, recognize retiring Pastors, ordain new ministers, worship, and share in the sacraments. We hear from the Methodist Home for Children, elect officers and representatives to various organizations, and many other matters pertaining to the local and regional churches of the United Methodist Church. We also hear the reading of the appointments of all of our Pastors on the last day of the conference which will be Saturday. Rich and I will share a

report of the Conference on June 26th.

>>>>>I have been attending Annual Conference since 1975 which was the first year receiving an appointment to the local church. There are many issues we are facing as a church both locally as well as globally. This is not new as we have always faced challenges of many types but have always prayerfully worked through them all.

>>>>>I believe in the church and I believe the church is the answer for the world in which we live because the church is of God. Jesus said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail.” This Sunday I will be preaching a message called, “I Believe in the Church.”

>>>>>Join me as we share together as the church of Jesus Christ with the greatest message the world has ever heard. It is the message of God’s Grace that is found in Jesus Christ our Savior and the work of God the Holy Spirit.

>>>>>Grace and Peace,

>>>>>Pastor Gene

Today’s Message:                           "I Believe in the Church”

Scripture:                                                            Acts 2: 42 -47

So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.43 Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds[j] to all, as any had need. 46 Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home[k] and ate their food with glad and generous[l] hearts, 47 praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

TO THE FELLOWSHIP HALL

The restoration work in the sanctuary will soon begin! In order for that to happen we will be "relocating" our worship services to the FELLOWSHIP HALL THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 19. We anticipate being in the fellowship hall for 4-6 weeks.

Our worship service will continue to be streamed live on Facebook each Sunday. Please plan to enter through the glass doors by the church office (Dobbs Street) or the double doors on Covent Garden Street (ramp access is available at this entrance).

United Methodists everywhere are being asked to honor a special person in their life by donating to a local church, posting about their honoree on social media and encouraging others to do the same!

This Father’s Day use the #IGiveUMC campaign to recognize your father or father figures who have inspired, encouraged and supported you in your life journeys.

Dear Hertford United Methodist Church,

Thank you for supporting Community Care Collaborative (CCC). Your support goes to help needy families in our community. We are grateful to you for showing the love of Christ to our neighbors.

Sincerely,

Becky Phelps

CCC Volunteer

*Monies designated to the Pastor's Aid Fund are spent through the Community Care Collaborative.

The Community Care Collaborative serves as a local community impact program of the Albemarle Area United Way meeting human needs by providing assistance to those facing temporary emergency crisis with the goal of closing gaps among local resources within Pasquotank, Gates, Camden, and Perquimans Counties.

Stephen Ministry is a team of laypeople doing one-to-one, distinctively Christian caring with those going through difficult times in life. The care is completely confidential. We know no one wants to admit they need help, but no one other than you and your Stephen Minister will know that you are having discussions. Difficult times in life constitute many things and times we all go through. Why go through it alone when you can have a person at your side to help carry the load. We are here to serve you and will be by your side whether you are lonely, ill, having problems at home, or grieving.

The Stephen Ministry team looks forward to helping you. The team consists of Carroll Harrell, Susan Winslow, Carol Kuhn, Ruth Lacefield, Kay Whedbee White and Jean Ashley (temporarily on leave of absence). If you want to know more about the ministry or need help yourself or know of someone who you think needs help, please contact one of the Stephen Ministers.
