The Mustard Seed Project

"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed..." – Matthew 13:31

This summer, we invite you to participate in our Mustard Seed Project, a faith-building fundraiser supporting our youth as they attend National Youth Conference and FaithX service experiences.

How It Works

1.     Receive $5 of "seed money"

2.     Use one of your gifts, talents, or skills to help that seed grow.

3.     Return the original $5 plus any funds raised on Welcome Back Sunday.

You might: bake cookies, brownies, or bread; babysit; help with yard work; wash cars; make and sell handmade items; or use any other creative idea God places on your heart!

The Mustard Seed Project is not simply about raising money. It is an opportunity to: step out in faith, use your God-given gifts, serve others, try something new, and discover what God can do with a small beginning.

Just as a mustard seed grows into something much larger than expected, we believe God can take our small offerings and use them in powerful ways.

Important Dates

Pick Up Seed Money: Beginning June 7

Welcome Back Sunday: Return your original $5 and all proceeds raised through your project.

Thank you for supporting our youth and for joining us in this journey of faith, growth, and discipleship. We can't wait to see what God does with these small seeds!

If you are interested in participating with this project, and missed this past Sunday, you can still pick up an envelope with seed money from the church office or Pastor Joel.

Do you have an interest in volunteering with our food pantry?

Now is your chance!

We are in need of people to serve in our food pantry during open hours, shop for food at the grocery store in between openings, pick up orders from the York County Food Bank, and assist with coordinating food pantry operations. Please sign up in the Gathering Area if you are interested!

Delivery & Pickup Help

The Deacons are asking if anyone in the church has a pickup truck or van that could help with deliveries or pickups. We are making a list of available persons in case we need help.

Please contact Jeff Miller at miller61j@gmail.com or 717-817-1349.

Thank You from the Deacon Team

Gathering Area Quilt

Every month the quilt in the gathering area is changed to another beautiful quilt.

The June quilt is named "Baby Turtle March".

These quilts are made by Sid Innerst. Sid is a very talented quilter and we want to thank her for sharing her beautiful work. As you are walking through the gathering area, please take a moment to enjoy the beauty and details of these quilts.

The bulletin board was designed by

Loretta Bachman. Please check out her beautiful artwork and the additions she will make to this display in July.

Lehman Center "Wish List"

Items for donation to the Lehman Center are being collected in the basket in the Gathering Area. Due to changes in the food pantry operations, these must be collected separately from food pantry supplies.

Here are some items that are needed at

Lehman Center:

Instant pudding (chocolate, banana)

Instant jello (orange, blue, green, grape, cherry)

Can fruit (pears, pineapples, fruit cocktail)

Applesauce (individual or jar)

Can vegetables (lima beans, peas, green beans)

Baby food - all stages

Baby snacks

Community Aid Partnership

First Church has initiated a partnership with CommunityAid, a source for donating gently used clothing and goods. This organization accepts donated items in good condition and offers them back to the community at affordable prices.

Making a donation is easy. CommunityAid currently has seven centers in central PA, with the York area store/donation location at 2001 Springwood Rd, site of the former Bon Ton store in the Queensgate Shopping Center. Simply drive up to the side of the store and employees will assist in unloading your items. In turn, by supplying partnership number 50344 (assigned to: First Church of the Brethren of York) to the CommunityAid employee, our church will periodically receive a monetary reimbursement based on the accumulated weight of donations.

A long list of acceptable items, along with hours of operation and other related information can be found on the display rack located on the wall in the Gathering Area at First Church. If you wish to receive a mailed copy, please contact the church office.

Patricia Carey is the Witness Team appointment for the Cash for Causes program. Please see Patricia before or after worship to purchase your Giant or Weis gift cards. Patricia will be at the table under the bulletin board in the Gathering Space.

You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

Since 2011, through the Cash for Causes program, the church has received 5% of sales to support various COB and local ministries. In 2024 the gift card sales supported The Lehman Center, New Community Project and the Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry with each receiving $233.08. For 2025, the Witness Team will review past giving and determine which agencies we will support this year.
