MESSAGE:

“We Are Witnesses”

Happening This Week

Good Friday: Stations of the Cross

This evening we recall the crucifixion and death of Jesus, the tragic journey he endured from trial to tomb. All are welcome to gather in the Sanctuary at 7:00 PM for a service of remembrance. At its center will be self-guided tour of 12 "stations" placed throughout the room, leading us each in a prayerful walk that traces Jesus's steps and his suffering. We'll join in prayer and song as well, aware of God's nearness even in death.

The Resurrection of our Lord: Come and See, Go and Tell

This Sunday is Easter Sunday, the day on which we remember that our Lord Jesus has been raised from the dead and we are set free by God's forgiving love. Christ is risen indeed! Our morning begins with a Morning Watch service at 8:40 PM, outdoors behind the Fellowship Hall, followed by our annual Easter Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall at 9:00 served by the youth of our church. After our meal together, we'll move to the Sanctuary for a Hymn Sing at 10:15 which will carry us into Easter Worship at 10:30.

Be prepared for a morning filled with praise, singing, and the good news of God's love for us all. This weeks' message will remind us of how the earth itself has been shaken at the event of Jesus' resurrection, and that we all stand to be re-awakened by the movement of God's Spirit, even years after we have met the risen Christ. Come and be open to how we will be led together, unafraid of newness of life which remains before us!

The Child Development Center (CDC) has had an administrative change:

Kim is happy to announce that we have a new CDC Assistant Director. Her name is Tori (Victoria) Setler. She has been a teacher with the CDC for one year, but came to us with 10 years of experience as an Assistant Director from another local day care center. She is currently in school to get her Associates Degree in Child Care. She has 4 children, and is engaged to be married to her fiancé Brian this Fall. If you happen to see her around the church, please congratulate her on her promotion.

Eric and I would like to express our gratitude for all of the cards and expressions of sympathy in the recent sudden loss of Nancy. It is such a comfort to know that we have such a strong support system here at York First. Nancy touched a lot of lives and I know that many of you are hurting now along with me and Eric’s family. I would especially like to thank my deacons and good friends Greg and Debbie Klinedinst. Without their support, I would be lost. ~ Steve Jones

Gathering Area Quilt

Every month the quilt in the gathering area is changed to another beautiful quilt. The April quilt is named "Wooden Cross".

These quilts are made by Sid Innerst. Sid is a very talented quilter and we want to thank her for sharing her beautiful work. As you are walking through the gathering area, please take a moment to enjoy the beauty and details of these quilts.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Prayer shawl ministry meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10 AM in the Anna Mow room. We would love to have some additional folks join us. If you have the time, come on in for some fun and good conversation. Bring whatever project you might be working on. If no materials, they can be provided. If no skill, feel free to attend and we can teach skill of choice. Hope to see you in April.

Community Aid Partnership

First Church has initiated a partnership with CommunityAid, a source for donating gently used clothing and goods. This organization accepts donated items in good condition and offers them back to the community at affordable prices.

Making a donation is easy. CommunityAid currently has seven centers in central PA, with the York area store/donation location at 2001 Springwood Rd, site of the former Bon Ton store in the Queensgate Shopping Center. Simply drive up to the side of the store and employees will assist in unloading your items. In turn, by supplying partnership number 50344 (assigned to: First Church of the Brethren of York) to the CommunityAid employee, our church will periodically receive a monetary reimbursement based on the accumulated weight of donations.

A long list of acceptable items, along with hours of operation and other related information can be found on the display rack located on the wall in the Gathering Area at First Church. If you wish to receive a mailed copy, please contact the church office.

Patricia Carey is the Witness Team appointment for the Cash for Causes program. Please see Patricia before or after worship to purchase your Giant or Weis gift cards. Patricia will be at the table under the bulletin board in the Gathering Space.

You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

Since 2011, through the Cash for Causes program, the church has received 5% of sales to support various COB and local ministries. In 2024 the gift card sales supported The Lehman Center, New Community Project and the Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry with each receiving $233.08. For 2025, the Witness Team will review past giving and determine which agencies we will support this year.

Elizabethtown College’s Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies presents Analysis of the Interaction between the American Politico-Legal System and the Amish Christian Minority, Using Three Models” by Frédérique Green on Tues., April 7, 7 pm, in the Bucher Meetinghouse. Green is a researcher and retired teacher with dual French and British citizenship. She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham in the UK, where she lives.
