Third Sunday Special Offering for Food Pantry

Our special offering this month will benefit our food pantry, and we would like to focus on items we are not currently able to purchase with our current funds. Specifically, we are requesting donations of pancake mix, syrup, ketchup, and mustard. We are also grateful to accept financial donations, too. Thank you for your kindness and support!

Please hold our Senior High Youth in prayer as they travel to Estes Park, Colorado for the Church of the Brethren National Youth Conference this week. This event is held every four years, and it is truly a “mountaintop experience” for the many who attend! With appreciation for all who provide leadership and have made preparation, we give thanks. For our youth who have the opportunity to take part, we are delighted!

Children's Sunday School Classes

9:00 AM in Rooms 151, 152, and 153. Children grades PreK (age 4) and up will have class lessons. Children ages 3-4 and younger are welcome to attend nursery care.

Youth Sunday School Class

9:00 AM in Room 155. Youth in grades 6-12 are welcome.

Vine & Branches Class

9:00 AM in Room 154. Teacher Pastor Joel. Will be studying

Chapter 11: “Low is High" from the book “The Upside-Down Kingdom”

by Donald Kraybill. All are welcome, especially younger adults.



Lamplighters Class

Bible Study: "Sabbath: God's Call to Peace" by Angela Finet

Lesson #2: "Sabbath as Peace with God" all are welcome.

Homebuilders Class

Our Youth have some big ADVENTURES coming up in July!

First, our Jr. High group is going to "CATRA"

which stands for "Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association" and is an Equine Therapy farm in Hershey for their Faith X work camp, July 5th - 10th. Diane Gibble and Dave Witkovsky are the adult advisors. 

Next, our Sr. High group is off to NYC (National Youth Conference) in Estes Park, CO. The theme this year is "Light within US", July 18th - 23rd. Michele Gibbel and Luke Miller are the adult advisors. 

The bulletin board in the Gathering Area is representing these trips. It has everyone's name on either a "Horse" or a "Sun". Please take 1 or 2 or as many as you would like, the purpose is to pray, think about, send a note OR whatever the Spirit moves you to do for our youth and advisors as they go on their summer Church of the Brethren ADVENTURES!

INNER COURTYARD AREA

The Facilities Care Team has been working to restore the inner courtyard area over the past few months. We hope it will once again be a space for prayer and relaxation for all of us. 

The space has been lightheartedly renamed by some as "Markel Park" in honor of the hours of planning and work done by Sheldon Markel who did most of the work related to flowers and the new patio area. 

We are happy to have the area once again serving the church as a beautiful oasis at the center of our church.

LUNCH BUNCH is Taking a Summer Vacation! 

At our last Lunch Bunch gathering in July at the Lyndon Diner, we decided that it would be best (because of fun travels and unpredictable temperatures) that we would take the rest of the summer off from our biweekly lunch gatherings.

We will resume gathering on Wednesday, September 2, at 11:30 am at Hoss's in

East York. Going forward, we have decided to meet just once a month on the first Wednesday, same time, 11:30am - 1pm, but at a different station (restaurant) each month! All ages are welcome!

Don't let transportation be a barrier - let us know of your need and we can gladly provide a ride! Carpooling is good for the earth and the more, the merrier! Have a wonderful summer and...see you in September (for Lunch Bunch)! 

Prayer Shawl Ministry is a ministry that falls under The Witness Team.

Shawls are given to people to comfort them as they go through trials. The shawl is made and prayed over for each recipient. If you or someone you know would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl please let Diane Gibble know. In the past 3 weeks we have had 3 shawls delivered. We also have prayer shawls made for children.  

Are you someone who can crochet or knit and would be willing to make some prayer shawls or want to learn how to make them?

Would you be willing to pray over the prayer shawl before the shawl is delivered? (this is typically done on a Sunday morning after worship as needed).

If you would like to participate in either of these activities please let Diane Gibble know.

Community Aid Partnership

First Church has initiated a partnership with CommunityAid, a source for donating gently used clothing and goods. This organization accepts donated items in good condition and offers them back to the community at affordable prices.



Making a donation is easy. CommunityAid currently has seven centers in central PA, with the York area store/donation location at 2001 Springwood Rd, site of the former Bon Ton store in the Queensgate Shopping Center. Simply drive up to the side of the store and employees will assist in unloading your items. In turn, by supplying partnership number 50344 (assigned to: First Church of the Brethren of York) to the CommunityAid employee, our church will periodically receive a monetary reimbursement based on the accumulated weight of donations.

A long list of acceptable items, along with hours of operation and other related information can be found on the display rack located on the wall in the Gathering Area at First Church. If you wish to receive a mailed copy, please contact the church office.
