Happening This Week

"God Calls, We Follow"

This week in worship, we'll continue our series recalling "heroes" of our faith tradition and how they have illuminated the call of Christ for us all. Sarah Righter Major was a young woman with deep conviction and recognition of God's call to become a preacher, long before women were welcome to speak in church. Come and be inspired by this woman's legacy of humble yet determined faithfulness to making use of her gifts. We'll examine her lasting influence on our church as well as challenges of interpreting the Bible with regard to matters such a this one.

This Sunday's service will also feature a "blessing of the backpacks" led by the Education Team. It is really a blessing of students, teachers, and all who are preparing for a return to school this season.

Worship, as always, will include a special time for the children as well as singing, scripture, prayer and proclamation. Join us at 10:30 AM, in person or online.

Live Stream Worship

Our worship services are available via YouTube for those who wish to join that way. Click the link above shortly before the service begin to join in 10:30 AM on Sunday or anytime afterward. DVD copies of the services are also available.

I will only ever email you using the pastor@yorkfirst.org address, and I will never ask for money or gift cards from you. Please be on alert and check email addresses and phone numbers carefully before responding. Thank you.

CALLING OF LEADERS – GIFTS DISCERNMENT PROCESS

Sunday, September 22nd

The life and work of our church depends on the calling of gifted leaders to serve our congregation, and each Fall Congregational Forum presents a slate for affirmation of those being called. Part of our process will involve an “open ballot” that we are planning for September 22, I which all church members are invited to prayerfully suggest names for open positions in leadership. We share this 6 weeks ahead of that date so that all have time to consider who they may suggest.

Look for more to come about this process in the weeks that are before us. For now, here is a list of positions that are to be filled:

Moderator

Church Clerk

CDC Ministry Team Chair

Staff Relations Team

Gifts Discernment Team (4)

Annual Conference Delegate and Alternate

District Conference Delegates (2) and Alternate
