Called to Make Peace
This week in worship, we will be reminded of a core conviction of our church, one that is relatively uncommon in our culture yet one that continually deserves attention - a commitment to being peacemakers, refusing war, and living without a thirst for vengeance.
One of Jesus's most challenging instructions is to love one's enemies, and even to be "perfect" in devotion to God, being impartial when it comes to deciding who we will love. Hatred has no place in God's new creation, nor must it have a place in our lives here and now. Overcoming it is not easy, but it is a worthy calling and perhaps life's greatest project.
Please join us this Sunday morning and each week as we seek the mind and heart of Christ together.
**Join us for dinner and time together on Saturday evening this weekend as well - game/movie night in the Fellowship Hall starting at 5 PM!

This years VBS offering will go to On Earth Peace. The congregation will get a chance on July 30th during worship to get the offering started. The children will hear some programs that On Earth Peace is doing around the world. We also plan to have children over the internet tell us what they are doing in their country to be a peacemaker during our offering time each night. The Thursday evening program will be run by On Earth Peace. For more information on On Earth Peace Visit https://www.onearthpeace.org/.
Last year we had 2 matching grants if you are interested in being a matching grant donor please let Sheryl Leaman know.
We need your help to defer the cost of VBS this year. VBS I've just been told is actually a budgeted item with Camp Eder however, there are not enough funds to run VBS and pay for camperships so we rely heavily on your donations to help make up the difference. There's a link on the church web site to donate to this years VBS or you can write a check memo VBS and place it in the offering plate.
• The curriculum cost about $180.00
• Snacks each night will be about $30.00
• Craft supplies run about $ 20.00 per night
• Program will run about $300.00
• As in years past we will be offering a free meal to the families of the attendees this cost is about $25.00 for a family of 4.
• VBS advertisement Banner and stage back drop $480.00
Please consider donating to help make this years VBS a success
Attention Volunteers! We can't do VBS without you. Please contact Diane Gibble (dmgibble1001@gmail.com) if you are willing to be a crew leader (a person who takes a group of children from activity to activity- no planning or prep needed). Also, needed are persons willing to be in the nursery watching the volunteers children too young for VBS. Please let Diane Gibble know if you are interested in serving.
|
|
Flags!!! This year Vacation Bible School theme is Passport to Peace. We are looking to borrow flags from around the world. If any of you have a flag from another country, any size, we can use to decorate please let Diane Gibble know. Thank you.

Since 2011 our Witness Team has sponsored the Cash for Causes program by selling Giant & Weis gift cards. The church receives 5% of sales to support various ministries. For 2022 the gift card sales will support The Lehman Center (Children’s Aid Society), New Community Project, Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry, and LifePath Christian Ministries (formerly York Rescue Mission). You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.
I plan to attend our in-person worship services and will have the gift cards available
for your purchase before or after the service. However, if you will not be attending our in-person worship services, I will continue to send cards in the mail if you want to support this outreach ministry. Send your check to Becky Wenger, 3011 Bedford Pl, York, PA 17408. The Giant or Weis cards will be mailed to you. Make your check out to York First Church.
Thank you for supporting this program - Becky Wenger, Cash for Causes representative

Concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and church operations:
Rates of covid are on the rise once again in our region, so please take precautions as you are so led. The church policy is that face coverings for our gatherings are optional for all attendees. So long as local case rates are low, we believe that we can gather safely and worship fully as usual. Please be aware of those around you that are most vulnerable to disease and operate out of regard for the well-being of all.
Worship will be live streamed on our YouTube channel and recorded each Sunday morning at 10:30 AM indefinitely for those who are unable to be present, but it is not intended to replace physical attendance long-term.
Thank you all for understanding and for your faithful participation in our life together. Please do your part to prevent the spread of contagious disease, as conditions may change in the future, as a holy expression of loving our neighbors as ourselves.
