Happening This Week

Service Sunday: Equipping God's People

This Sunday in worship, we celebrate the many service ministries of our church both local and denominational. Designated as "Service Sunday" each year, this first Sunday of February honors all who serve one another through Christ's leading and reminds us of the importance of service as a lifestyle shaped by faith. We will highlight some of our local church's work of service as well as the larger service ministries of the Church of the Brethren. Come and be reminded of the legacy of service ministry that we hope to carry forward together.

We will also have a time of installation for Kim Witkovsky this Sunday within worship, as she officially begins a new position of visitation ministry among us. Join us as we seek to equip, build up, and encourage one another in our walk with Christ.

“Souperbowl” Sunday Soup Collection

Attention football fans and anyone else who loves soup! This year the Superbowl LX (60) will take place on Sunday, February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA! And it will be a battle between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. For those of you who are not football fans or if your team didn’t make it to the big game, you might be thinking “Why do I even care?” Well, here is your reason to celebrate and at the same time, show others you really care about them. On Sunday, February 8, the Worship Ministry Team is inviting you to bring along to church with you a minimum of 1 can of your favorite soup (placing bets that tomato is the most popular) but, if you wish, as many as you can carry, to donate to the church’s Food Pantry. This way we can all get into the spirit of celebrating “Souperbowl” Sunday (no – that is not a typo) whether you are a sports fan or just someone who cares about others. Find the table and/or the little red wagon in the Gathering Space and make your “souper” donation to the cause of feeding your neighbors. Let’s see how many cans of soup we can collect! We thank you in advance for your generous donations! Let’s have fun and show we care!

OUR DAILY BREAD/SOUP KITCHEN - Friday, February 13, 2026

Sign up by calling Sandi Bowser at 717-825-7203 to make a casserole for

Our Daily Bread/Soup Kitchen on Friday, February 13, 2026 (10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)

PLEASE contact Sandi to add your name and number of casseroles, so we can let

Our Daily Bread/Soup Kitchen know how many casseroles to expect.

The pans are located in the church lounge. Thank you!

WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH THE 2026 DIRECTORY

We have placed the Members and Friends pages in the gathering area. Please make any necessary updates to your family's information on these pages. We want to have all current information before we print the directory. You may also email your information to secretary@yorkfirst.org ~ Thank you!

Flowers and Bulletins Dedications

As we enter into the New Year, we want to, once again, invite you to consider dedicating flowers or bulletins on a Sunday morning for worship. You may want to recognize a special person or celebration with flowers or by sponsoring a bulletin.

Please use the Flower Chart and the Bulletin Chart (on the bulletin board in the hallway behind the Gathering Space) to sign up for the Sunday that works for you. Once your name is on the list, Karen Bowman, Administrative Assistant, will contact you the week before to find out what message you would like printed in the bulletin for either item sponsored. The donation for bulletins is $25 which covers the cost of the paper and color printing. You may purchase your own flowers or make arrangements with any florist you wish. Please speak with Karen about delivery options if you are not picking them up yourself.

We hope you consider this creative and fun way to celebrate and remember each other while you adorn the sanctuary with beautiful flowers (minimum to no fragrance due to allergies) or sponsor a bulletin that enhances our worship experience! Please contact Diane Gibble, Worship Ministry Team, with questions or for more information.

Gathering Area Quilt

Every month the quilt in the gathering area is changed to another beautiful quilt. The February quilt is named

"Wild River Rock".

These quilts are made by Sid Innerst. Sid is a very talented quilter and we want to thank her for sharing her beautiful work. As you are walking through the gathering area, please take a moment to enjoy the beauty and details of these quilts.

Patricia Carey is the Witness Team appointment for the Cash for Causes program. Please see Patricia before or after worship to purchase your Giant or Weis gift cards. Patricia will be at the table under the bulletin board in the Gathering Space.

You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

Since 2011, through the Cash for Causes program, the church has received 5% of sales to support various COB and local ministries. In 2024 the gift card sales supported The Lehman Center, New Community Project and the Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry with each receiving $233.08. For 2025, the Witness Team will review past giving and determine which agencies we will support this year.
