The Investiture of the 11th Bishop of West Texas


The Bishops of the Diocese of West Texas request the honor of your presence at the Recognition and Investiture of the Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read on Friday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. during Evensong at St. Mark's, San Antonio. During the service, the people of West Texas will recognize and receive Bishop Read and promise to uphold him in this ministry. In the Diocese of West Texas tradition, Bishop David M. Reed will pass the diocesan crozier to Bishop David G. Read, signifying his new role as Bishop Diocesan.


Registration is not required to attend.

The board of the Living Church Foundation (TLC) has elected the Rev. Dr. Walter L. (Chip) Prehn, retired priest of West Texas and former Chaplain and Assistant Headmaster of TMI, as its new president at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 25 and 26. Prepare for Advent with a peaceful morning on the grounds of Cathedral Park at the Bishop Jones Center. The Wisdom Years will host a Quiet Day on Thursday, November 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Prayer and meditation, time on the grounds, and small-group conversation will form the morning. Threads of Blessing invites you to an Exhibit and Sale on Friday, November 17 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Bishop Jones Center in San Antonio. The exhibit will feature handwork from Women of Uganda – Hand Embroideries , Lena Endreois - Fused Glass & Raku , Hannah Margolis - Handwovens by Hannah, and Linda Perez - Linda Perez Ceramics, all of which will be available for purchase.


The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read will visit St. Andrew's, Seguin on November 12.


The Rev. Cristopher Robinson has been called as the new rector for St. Matthew’s, Universal City, beginning Monday, December 4. The Diocese of West Texas and St. Matthew's thank the Rev. Chuck Woehler for serving as interim.


The Rev. Timothy L. Swan, by the grace of God and with the consent of the people, will be ordained to the Priesthood at St. Stephen's, Wimberley by the Rt. Rev. David M. Reed on Saturday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m. 


Diocesan Immigration & Refugee Ministries has issued an urgent request for baby clothing, bottles, infant formula, other supplies, and volunteers for the Plaza de Paz Respite Center in response to increasing numbers of families with toddlers and babies at the center. New and gently used infant and toddler clothing (sizes Preemie to 4T) can be delivered to the Bishop Jones Center; items may be purchased through their Amazon List and Walmart ListClick here to contact Flor Saldivar for more information or to volunteer.

Episcopal institutions are invited to apply for Episcopal Church Constable and Roanridge grants offered annually by The Episcopal Church. Constable Fund grants focus on religious education and Roanridge Trust grants support leadership development in small towns and rural communities. The application deadline for both is January 2. Building on 20 years of partnership, the United Thank Offering and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) are teaming up for the 4th annual Great EpisGOpal Race. On November 20-28 this virtual event offers multiple ways—run, bike, swim, hike, paddle board, and more—to participate and raise funds to support refugee resettlement and other EMM programs.
