Jan. 20, 2019

During this week's prayer service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we reflected on his legacy. Dr. King said: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." We asked ourselves: What about us? How do we use our voices to shed light on things that matter?

College and Career Updates

Course Advisement Meetings
After your daughter submits her Course Selection Form on the scheduling website, she will be prompted to schedule her course advising meeting with her college counselor.  Your daughter is responsible for remembering her appointment time. On the day of her appointment, she should notify her teacher at the start of the class period of the time that she will need to leave class to attend her 20 minute course advisement meeting.

If your daughter does not know who her counselor is, here is the alphabetical breakdown:

Class of 2020 and 2021
A-D:  Liz Paz-Rumore, JD
E-L: Colleen Lim
M-Q:  Lisa Sciacca
R-Z:  Ginger Jessop

Class of 2022
A-C:  Liz Paz-Rumore, JD
D-K: Colleen Lim
L-Q:  Lisa Sciacca
R-Z:  Ginger Jessop

Action Item for Seniors: Updating Colleges about Changes
Parents of seniors, the college counselors automatically sent mid-year reports
and transcripts to every college on your daughter's Naviance list. If your
daughter changed her schedule, dropped a class, or earned a D or F grade, she
should notify each college on her list via email.

Career Exploration Lunchtime Speaker Series: Nursing & Health Sciences
On Friday, January 25 during lunch in the College and Career Center (room 13), Anne Harty from Creighton University will talk with students about majoring in nursing and health science in college.  If your daughter thinks she may be interested in a career in health care, we hope you will encourage her to attend. All grade levels are welcome.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
We encourage your daughter to pursue her intellectual interests or personal
passions this summer by participating in a summer program, volunteering,
working, or interning. We have a curated list of summer opportunities on
Schoology in the Resources folder. Many free or low-cost programs exist and
these programs are often viewed as more impressive than "pay to play"
programs. Now is the time to explore these options and apply.

Our Calendar is now online!
We update our online  College and Career calendar  every week with college events happening on-campus and throughout the Bay Area.  We post annual parent information nights and in-class student programs too.  Bookmark our calendar  and stay in the know. Check out the calendar here
Parent-Volunteer opportunities
