Cartas Con Amor

When Natalie Ionescu '20 and J ackie Brown '20 created Cartas Con Amor (Letters with Heart), they brought a sense of caring to hundreds of detained immigrants at the U.S. and Mexican border. With the help and guidance of Modern Language teacher Karina Thor and Campus Ministry, Natalie and Jackie learned anxiety may weigh down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

Artistic bus in Inner Court supports Get on the Bus

Nearly 25 students from Mr. Kjera's Art class, various clubs, and volunteers joined to support the Get on the Bus program by building an artistic bus in the Inner Court.

For our Lenten Project this year we are partnering with  Get On The Bus . We  will  sponsor a bus trip for children, from the Oakland area, to visit their parents at High Desert State Prison in May.

Please take the opportunity to contribute to the stay connected bags for each child.  The stay connected bag has the items below in it as well as a small picture frame so each child can have a keepsake picture of child and parent taken during the visit. Other items allow children to write letters to their parents and draw pictures.

Items needed between March 18 and April 12.
* Seniors are collecting stationary, pens, and pencils.
* Juniors are collecting picture frames and stickers.
* Sophomores are collecting colored pencils, crayons, and pencil pouches.
* Freshman are collecting teddy bears.
Paper straws at Carondelet

I decided to do something to make a change, so I wrote letters to the school administration to inform them about the effects plastic straws have on marine life and encourage them to use paper straws in the Garaventa Center. I am happy that my dream has become a reality and I hope that with more efforts to reduce our school's carbon footprint we can become a completely plastic-free school.

Celebrating Earth Day early

This past week Carondelet celebrated Earth Week a little early because Earth Day will come during our spring break. Carondelet started by hosting a sustainable bake sale and raised $218 dollars for the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Corazon builds relationships

Mary Smith '21 said, "I loved that on Corazon we got to bond with our religion class and get to talk to and receive advice from our peer leaders. Everyone got to share their stories.... I grew closer with my classmates and got to learn more about everyone."

Sophomores extrapolate absolute zero

Absolute zero is the temperature at which all molecular motion stops.  It has never been reached in reality but can be estimated experimentally.  Students in Dr. T's Chemistry class performed a guided-inquiry experiment to test Charles' Law that shows a direct relationship between the volume of a gas and temperature.  In the process, the class pooled its collective data to see if the value of absolute zero (-273 degrees Celsius) can be extrapolated.
The experiment was a resounding success!
