Dear Residents -
Monday, April 22, 2024, is Earth Day, an annual celebration that raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources. This year’s theme is “Planet vs. Plastics” - looking to bring attention to the problem of plastic pollution and how it harms nature. However, Earth Day serves as more than a one-day celebration; it is a reminder that we can all make small changes in our daily lives, like participating in the Orangetown Food Scrap Program, so that we are all contributing to a more sustainable future.
There are several ways to celebrate Earth Day this weekend. You can join the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance for their Community Clean Up tomorrow. They will be meeting at the Christ Church in Sparkill at 9 am to help clean up in and around the Sparkill Creek. For more information, call Robert Tompkins at (845) 735-7655 or RSVP here.
Another way you can celebrate is to head over to the St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) campus tomorrow, where from 12 pm to 6 pm, they will be hosting an Earth Day Celebration. There will be vendors, music, food trucks, beverages and lots of family fun. It is free and open to conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts and eco-warriors of all ages. It is a great opportunity to learn about environmental sustainability while having fun.
On Sunday, the Orangetown Museum will be kicking off its newest exhibit, Creating Community 1950, at the DePew House from 1 pm to 4 pm. Find out how a building, baby and business boom exploded in Orangetown in the 1950s. After Sunday, the exhibit will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm and on Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm. For more information, click here.
And some exciting news—Tappan Zee High School’s FIRST Robotics Championship team, SO BOTZ Team 6911, is competing in the World Championship in Houston, Texas. Tomorrow is the final day of competition, which you can follow HERE. Congratulations and go SO BOTZ!
Have a great weekend.
Regards –
