Dear Residents -

Yesterday, I attended the Yom HaShoah commemoration, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, hosted by the Justice Brandeis Law Society and the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education at the Rockland County Courthouse. It was a solemn ceremony, with members of the legal community and others coming together to remember the six million Jews and millions of others who perished during the Holocaust. Today, more than ever, we must never forget the past and continue to work towards a future where such atrocities can never happen again.

Due to inclement weather again being predicted for the weekend, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Earth Day Celebration scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. I want to give a shout out to the students and their professor, Angela McDonnell, for all the time and work they put into planning this program, and to the school administration for their support of these important community events.

Tomorrow, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is holding its National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. In support of this initiative, the Orangetown Police Department will be collecting expired or unused medications at Town Hall tomorrow, from 10 am to 2 pm. For more information, call (845) 359-3700. As a reminder, you can always drop off unwanted medications at the Orangetown Police Department front desk.

On Sunday, I will be bowling in the 4th Annual Jawonio Hometown Heroes Bowl-a-Thon, co-chaired by Sheriff Lou Falco, RC Legislator Lon Hofstein and County Clerk Donna Silberman. While my team is full, you can still sign up HERE to be a “cheerleader” (and get a good laugh at my bowling skills) or, if you can’t attend, consider donating HERE to support the vital work that Jawonio does for our community.

There is an important travel alert this weekend that you should be aware of. The ramp from northbound Route 9W to the southbound Thruway (I-87/I287)/Tappan Zee Bridge will be closed from 10 pm tonight through 5 am on Monday, April 28, 2025. There will be a posted one-mile detour for those who must take the route. The northbound Thruway ramp from Route 9W will remain open.

Have a great weekend, rain and all!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
