Beware of Door-to-Door Home Improvement Scams
With warmer weather comes an increase in door-to-door home improvement scams, often carried out by individuals known as "travelers." These scammers typically offer services like driveway sealing, roofing, paving, or tree work at a "low cost" — but the results are often poor quality, unfinished, or not done at all.
What to Watch Out For:
- Unsolicited offers for home repairs
- Claims of leftover materials from another job
- Requests for cash or full payment upfront
- No written contract, license, or business address
- High-pressure sales tactics
Protect Yourself:
- Say no to uninvited repair offers
- Always check for a license and references
- Get a written contract before any work begins
- Never pay the full amount upfront
- Report suspicious activity to the police immediately
If someone comes to your door offering unexpected home repairs, take a step back and do your research. If it sounds too good to be true — it probably is.
