February 20, 2026

Dear Residents,

In partnership with the Tappan Fire Department, Orangetown will once again host its annual Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks. We hope to see some new faces participating this year because, as we all know, many hands make light work.

The Orangetown Police Department is currently hiring Crossing Guards. If you enjoy working with children and have some spare time, this is a wonderful opportunity to serve the community. Applications are available by clicking HERE. For more information, please call (845) 359-3700 ext. 3245.

Please join us tomorrow, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. for a street dedication ceremony honoring the legacy of Police Officer Courtney F. Smith. The ceremony will take place on South Broadway, between Cornelison and Clinton Avenues in South Nyack.

Enjoy your weekend.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Boy Scout Troop 55

Supervisor Kenny recently met with members of Boy Scout Troop 55 at the Blauvelt Firehouse. Under the leadership of Harry Mirijanian, the scouts came prepared with thoughtful questions, truly living up to the motto, “Be Prepared.”

Troop 55 has proudly served Orangetown, acting as honor guard at Town Reorganization Meetings and Orangetown Nights at Clover Stadium.

Since January of 2025, the Orangetown Police Department is proud to support the Blue Envelope Program — an initiative designed to improve communication and promote safer interactions between law enforcement officers and drivers with autism.

The Blue Envelope provides a safe and helpful way for drivers to store important documents such as:

• Driver’s license

• Vehicle registration

• Insurance card

• Emergency contact information

The outside of the envelope notifies officers that the driver may have a communication challenge, helping officers approach the interaction with awareness, patience, and understanding.

How It Works

Drivers place their required documents inside the blue envelope and keep it in their vehicle. During a traffic stop, the driver can hand the envelope to the officer, signaling that they may need additional time or clear instructions.

This program promotes:

✔️ Clear communication

✔️ Reduced stress during traffic stops

✔️ Increased safety for everyone involved

Blue Envelopes are available at the Orangetown Police Department. If you or a family member would benefit from participating in this program, please stop by or contact us at 845-359-3700 for more information.
