Dear Residents -

This weekend, Route 303 between Erie Street and Orangeburg Road will be closed in both directions so the Rockland County Sewer District can make repairs to a severely damaged sewer line. It will be closing tonight at 8 pm and will remain closed through Monday at 5 am. While local traffic will have access, Orangetown Police will be on site to make sure all others follow the detour. Please make our police officers’ lives just a little bit easier by avoiding that area unless absolutely necessary.

For those of you who participate in the Food Scrap Recycling Program, you will notice a change at the drop-off location. On Wednesday, Rockland Green rolled out a new container that makes it easier to drop your bagged food waste. Hopefully, it will encourage some of you who do not currently participate in the program to give it a try! For more information, click HERE or email questions to Supervisor@orangetown.com.

The new Meals on Wheels Senior Center in Tappan has been open only one week and I have already heard great things about it. In fact, just this afternoon, our seniors enjoyed a Caribbean-themed event. While you missed out on today’s fun, send an email to orangetownsac@mowrockland.org or call Debbie, the manager, at (845) 580-2292, to make sure you don’t miss out on any future festivities!

If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, consider attending a Guest Bartending Fundraiser this Sunday to support the Penguin Plunge. With Pearl River coaches challenging some Tappan Zee coaches to see who can raise the most amount of “tip” money, it is sure to be a great time. Throw in some live music and what a great way to spend the day supporting a cause that is near and dear to me. It starts at noon at O’Grady’s Castle at the Blue Hill Golf Course.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend, stay dry and have some fun!

Regards –

Teresa M. Kenny

Office of Emergency Management

Attention Orangetown residents and business owners,

The Town’s Office of Emergency Management could not effectively operate without the professional partnership with and expertise of our volunteer Fire and EMS personnel. Today and going forward, incentivizing volunteerism in delivering efficient emergency service is at the forefront of recruiting and/or retaining qualified personnel. Many incentives currently exist, such as property and school tax discounts, income tax credits, business discounts for first responders, limited affordable housing, and service and training stipends.

Additionally, students attending places of higher learning are also eligible for tuition discounts and credit programs. Please see the below informational links to educational programs intended to incentive volunteerism with the Fire and/or EMS services within Orangetown.

Retrace the steps of our WWII Camp Shanks soldiers on their way to fight in Europe!

The Camp Shanks Freedom Trail memorializes the sacrifice of the nearly 1.3 million soldiers that passed through Camp Shanks. The trail marks the route that soldiers took from Camp Shanks to the Piermont Pier so that others can follow in their footsteps. For many, Camp Shanks was "Last Stop USA." Click HERE for the map.

Many thanks to the hard work of Eagle Scout, Michael Hanebuth, Troop 2055 Blauvelt, NY for building the trail and creating the detailed map.
