June 21, 2024

Dear Residents -

Summer of 2024 is here! And with it, comes severe heat and humidity that is expected to continue throughout the weekend. If you should lose power or need air conditioning, Orangetown Town Hall will be open as a cooling center through Sunday, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

As in past years, during the summer months I take a break from my weekly introductions. But not to worry, I will continue to send out the weekly newsletter filled with important information and events going on around town. And if you really miss me, you can always tune into WRCR Radio 1700 AM every Wednesday morning at 8:45 am. I chat with Jeff and Will and discuss current events and things going on in Orangetown. So, should you have questions or concerns, you can call into the show at (845) 429-1700 or email me at Supervisor@Orangetown.com.

Blue Hill Golf Course is turning 100 years old this year. To celebrate this historic event, the operators of the pro shop and O’Grady’s Castle will be hosting a golf outing that rivals all other outings. If you are interested in golfing or attending the after-golf festivities, please click here. I hope to see you all there on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Please note that the NYSDOT will be closing Route 9W between Shadyside Avenue and Hickey Street, to perform maintenance work this Saturday. For more detailed information and a map, see below.

This summer, try to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, try some new adventures and spend time with your family and friends making great memories. Whatever you choose to do, have a great summer and I will see you back here in September.

Regards –

Teresa M. Kenny

Severe Heat in the Forecast - June 18th to 23rd

A potentially historic period of heat is forecast to impact our region Tuesday 6/18 through Sunday 6/23. New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services have provided the following public information:

Safety Tips

  • Stay hydrated! Water is preferred.
  • Limit your outdoor activities and don’t exercise outside between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • When working in the heat you should drink one cup (8 ounces) of water every 15 – 20 minutes. Even if you’re not thirsty, drink 24-32 ounces of water per hour.
  • Wear light clothing and sunscreen.
  • Stay cool by staying in the air-conditioning, if possible.
  • If you don’t have access to air conditioning, it may be cooler outside in the shade.
  • NEVER leave people or pets in a vehicle. The inside temperature of a car can quickly reach 120 degrees, even with the windows cracked.
  • Do not rely on electric fans as your main source of cooling, although they may provide comfort, when temperatures rise above 90 degrees they do not prevent heat related illness.
  • Check your local forecast and sign up for weather alerts that will come right to your phone at alert.ny.gov.
