March 27, 2026

Dear Residents,

It’s an exciting time for our athletics programs when I find myself congratulating not one—but four—high school basketball teams for their outstanding accomplishments.

The Nyack High School girls’ basketball team captured the Section 1 Class AA Championship with a thrilling 46–44 win over Ossining. They closed out an outstanding season with a narrow 50–46 loss to Bethlehem in the state semifinals.

Adding to the excitement, the Tappan Zee boys’ basketball team won the Section 1 Class A championship with a 51–38 win over Byram Hills. And while the Dutchmen fell to Hudson 57–45 in the Class A semifinals, they still had a great season.

Finally, both the Tappan Zee and Albertus Magnus girls’ teams claimed Section 1 state titles this past week. Tappan Zee’s 54–48 victory over Utica secured its first-ever Girls Varsity Basketball NYS Class A championship title. Albertus Magnus defeated Aquinas Institute 72-50, clinching its third consecutive Class AAA state title. Congratulations to the Lady Dutchmen and the Lady Falcons on their remarkable achievements.

With so much success on the court, I’m already counting down to next year’s basketball season!

Looking ahead, here are a few upcoming events you may want to mark on your calendar. Easter Egg Hunts for the little ones will take place this Sunday, March 29, 2026, and Saturday, April 4, 2026. On April 11, 2026, the Town of Orangetown and the Tappan Fire Department will once again host the Great American Cleanup at the Tappan Firehouse. That same day, the Orangetown Town Clerk and Rockland Green will host the 2026 Paper Shredding Event at Orangetown Town Hall. As always, information on these events and more can be found below.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend, and a Happy Passover to those who celebrate.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
