Dear Residents -

There’s a lot going on in Orangetown, so allow me to share a few important updates and reminders for the week ahead.

First, at this Tuesday’s Town Board Meeting on May 19, 2026, Sidetrack Properties LLC will be presenting a proposed residential development for the corner of West Jefferson Avenue and South Main Street in Pearl River. The presentation is expected to begin at approximately 7 PM. If you would like to review the concept plan beforehand, please click HERE.

There will also be a public hearing regarding proposed parking and signage changes in Pearl River and South Nyack. You can review the proposed local law by clicking HERE.

A reminder as well that Tuesday is the School Budget and Board of Education elections. Be sure to vote on the proposed budgets and candidates for your local Board of Education, as well as the $61.4 million Capital Improvement Bond for those in the Pearl River School District. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 9 PM.

We are also just about a week from Memorial Day Weekend. While many people think of it as the unofficial start of summer, it is more importantly a time to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States military who gave their lives in service to our country. Please take a moment to review the flyer below that highlights the ceremonies and remembrance events taking place in Orangetown.

And finally, the weather forecast for tomorrow looks beautiful—a perfect reason to stop by the opening of the Pearl River Farmers Market at the Central Avenue Field, grab the kids and head to the Orangetown Highway Department Open House, or attend the Field of Honor Opening Ceremony in Tappan. For details on these events and more, please scroll down.

Whatever your plans may be this weekend, I hope you get a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend some quality time with family and friends.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

St. Thomas Aquinas Groundbreaking Ceremony

Supervisor Kenny was thrilled to participate in the St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) groundbreaking celebration for its new Track & Field facility. President Ken Daly, Vice President of Institutional Advancement Thomas Flood, Cross Country Head Coach Ray Kondracki, Rockland Road Runner (RRR) President Bill Carpenter, and STAC Director of Safety & Security and long-time RRR club member Mike Greco were on hand to mark this milestone—the expansion of the Spartan Athletic Complex.

Piermont Fire Department 5K

Before the rain on Saturday, Supervisor Kenny participated in the Piermont Fire Department’s annual 5K, joining runners and walkers of all ages for a great event. Supervisor Kenny was delighted when she learned that she finished first in her age group (and yes, there were other participants in her age group)!

Buckle Up New York - Click It or Ticket Mobilization

May 18, 2026 through May 31, 2026

New York requires all occupants of motor vehicles to be restrained by a seat belt, regardless of where they are seated in the vehicle. Children under age 8 must be secured in a proper child restraint (car seat or booster), children under age 4 must be secured in an appropriate child safety seat, and children under age 2 must be seated rear-facing.

Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash

Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle; the seat belt slows you down and spreads crash forces over the strongest parts of your body.

Air bags are designed to work with seat belts, not replace them

If you don’t wear your seat belt, you could be thrown into a rapidly opening frontal air bag. Such force could injure or even kill you.

Guidelines to buckle up safely

  • The lap belt and shoulder belt are secured across the pelvis and rib cage, which are better able to withstand crash forces than other parts of your body.
  • Place the shoulder belt across the middle of your chest and away from your neck.
  • The lap belt rests across your hips, not your stomach.
  • NEVER put the shoulder belt behind your back or under an arm.

Seat Belts Save Lives - Every trip, Every time.
