Dear Residents -
As we enter this Memorial Day weekend, please take a moment to read the poem below, written by Orangetown Poet Laureate Rose Marie Raccioppi, entitled “Memorial Day Tribute 2025.” Thanks to Rose Marie for once again sharing her powerful words with us and reminding us what Memorial Day is really about - a time to honor the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.
There is also a list of the Memorial Day ceremonies and parades that will be taking place, ending next Thursday, May 29, 2025, with two watchfires – one at Clausland Mountain and the other at the Piermont Pier, with the fires commencing at 11:30 pm and lasting for 24 hours. Did you know that watchfires date back to the Revolutionary War? They were originally used as signaling devices and to help soldiers find their way back to their units. Over time, they have come to symbolize remembrance and honor for those who died in service to their country. Thanks to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #333, with help from our local fire departments, for continuing this very important tradition.
As a reminder, Town Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025 in observance of Memorial Day.
Regards,

| | Remembering PO Michael Buczek | | On May 9, 2025, Supervisor Kenny joined the Orangetown Police Benevolent Association, the New York Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies at a plaque dedication ceremony to honor NYPD Police Officer Michael Buczek, who was shot and killed in October 1988 while attempting to arrest a suspect. The plaque was unveiled and presented to the Buczek family at the family-owned Dunkin' in Pearl River. | | Supervisor Kenny, County Executive Ed Day and a representative from Congressman Mike Lawler's office celebrated the grand opening of Databank, a new data center in Orangeburg. This facility will help meet the growing demand for increased capacity and critical IT infrastructure and services. The project is estimated to generate over $41,000,000 in state and local economic benefit, through a combination of property, income and sales tax revenues over the next decade. | | Inaugural Piermont Fire 5K | | Supervisor Kenny participated in the Inaugural Piermont Fire Department 5K. She was one of 389 runners/walkers out there in support of the Piermont FD, Sparkill-Palisades FD, Nyack FD, and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps. Congratulations to Race Director Raymond Fusco on a job well done! | | Supervisor Kenny joined her fellow town supervisors for a Leadership Rockland session on Government, Politics & Public Policy. The five town supervisors discussed the biggest issues facing their towns and answered questions about the workings of town government. | | |
