Dear Residents -

If you are feeling blue about all this rain, remember that we are only 21 days from the official start of summer. As a reminder, from June 27 through Labor Day, there will be no introductions included in the newsletter. However, the weekly newsletter will still include important information about town meetings, events taking place in Orangetown and important tips from the Orangetown Police Department. And just think, come September, I will have so much to tell you!

Hopefully the rain will stop in time for the Pearl River Farmers Market tomorrow because new vendors will be there that I think you will like. First is Prince Popover, who will be baking popovers at the market. Served warm, they have two varieties - "Savory Royalty" made with Parmigiano, prosciutto and black pepper, and "Sweet Majesty" made with honey, jam, melted dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream and black raspberry sauce. And what better to go with a popover than some cider. Yes, Red Barn Cidery from Dr. Davies, a 5th generation Rockland County Farm, will be there with their hard cider – including flavors like Black Cherry, Strawberry, "Davies Blend," and "Apple Cider Donut." To see a complete list of the vendors that will be there tomorrow, click HERE.

On Sunday, the Blauvelt Lions Club and the Blauvelt Lions Leo Club at TZHS will be hosting the 3rd annual 5K Journey for Sight Run/Walk. The event starts at 10:30 am behind the Blauvelt Library. This event supports charities for the visually impaired, including the Vacation Camp for the Blind and the Association for the Visually Impaired, among others. To register, click HERE.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend, enjoy!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning customers to be wary of the latest phishing scam, where bad actors seek to gain access to personal information by pretending to be from the DMV.

“These scammers flood phones with these texts, hoping to trick unsuspecting New Yorkers into handing over their personal information,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “DMV will not send you texts asking for your personal information.”

  • Be cautious about all the communications you receive, including those that claim to be from "trusted entities." Be careful when clicking any links contained within those messages. If in doubt, do not click.
  • Do not send your personal information via email. Legitimate businesses will not ask users to send sensitive personal information through email.

  • Be wary of how much information you post online. The less information you post, the less data you make available to a cybercriminal for use in developing a potential attack or scam.
