October 24, 2025

Dear Residents,

As we enter the last week of October, there is no shortage of Halloween happenings, with one of my favorite events happening tomorrow—the annual Nyack Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade. It kicks off at 5:30 pm from Nyack Memorial Park. So, put on your most daring costume and join the frighteningly fun parade. And as it is the 50th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (a cult movie classic that played at midnight in Rockland County for over 18 years), the parade will feature a flash mob style dance troupe performing “The Time Warp” along the route. For more information, visit nyackchamber.org.

If you can’t make the Nyack parade tomorrow, or if you just really like Halloween parades, there is another one next Friday, October 31, 2025. The Orangeburg Fire Association will be hosting its annual Halloween Parade starting at 6:30 pm at the Orangeburg Firehouse. For updates, visit their website at www.orangeburgfd.org. Not into parades? Scroll down to see what other events are happening around town.

As a reminder, early voting starts tomorrow. See the flyer below for locations, dates and times (as they change from day to day). While for many of us (myself included), it has always been standard practice to vote on Election Day, I have since discovered that early voting is really convenient. Not only can you vote at any of the election centers (not just your own town hall), but more importantly, it ensures that your vote will count even if you have an unexpected event on Election Day—like illness or bad weather. November 22, 2025 will be the last day for the Pearl River Farmers Market this year. As we enter its final weeks, we have a few add-ons to entice you to stop by. Tomorrow, fruit and veggie expert “Produce Pete” will be there. Pete is the host of a long-running segment on NBC’s Weekend Today in New York. So, stop by, do a little shopping and say “hi” to Pete. And if you need pumpkins and want to support a good cause, Cub Scout Pack 2036 will also be at the market selling pumpkins from Demarest Farms to raise funds for their chapter. Then, on November 8, 2025, there is going to be a Food Truck Festival from 11 am to 4 pm on the Central Avenue Field, with music from Andrew Ace Greenspan. Please join us for these events and then take a stroll down Central Avenue to check out all the great shops and restaurants in Pearl River.

Have a great weekend and hope to see you around town!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Pearl River Day - 2025

Pearl River Day 2025 was a huge success. A big thank you to the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce for organizing this wonderful annual event, and to the Orangetown Police and Highway Departments for keeping everyone safe and the town clean. Perfect weather, great food, lively music, and fantastic vendors made for a lot of very happy people.

Honoring the Brinks Robbery Victims

This past Monday marked the 44th anniversary of the Brinks Robbery, when Nyack Police Officers, Sgt. Edward O’Grady and Officer Waverly Brown, and Brinks security guard Peter Paige, were murdered in an act of domestic terrorism. Supervisor Kenny, Councilman Brian Donohue, Chief Donald Butterworth, and Town Attorney Rob Magrino, together with law enforcement, elected officials and members of the community, attended the annual Brinks Robbery Memorial Service to honor the lives of these men.
