Congratulations to Grafton and Whitefish Bay! Those communities made the list of the
50 safest cities to raise a child by SafeWise. In fact, Wisconsin had the most cities on their list. Thirty-two percent of the top 50 cities are in our state. That kind of news is bringing more and more people to Wisconsin.
Our tourism industry is booming! Last year,
tourism had a $20.6 billion impact on our economy. That's up 40% since 2010! Nearly 110 million people visited Wisconsin in 2017. To put that in perspective, it's five times the number of fans who attended NBA games during the 2016-2017 season. Wisconsin tourism is a slam dunk!

On Thursday, Foxconn officially broke ground in Wisconsin. The tech giant is making a historic, once-in-a-lifetime investment in our great state.
Recently, they also announced their North American corporate headquarters will be located in downtown Milwaukee. The headquarters is expected to hire more than 500 people and serve as an innovation center for entrepreneurs.
While the state may offer up to $2.85 billion in tax credits over 15 years, Foxconn must meet strict hiring goals to receive any credits. That's real protection for taxpayers. It's clear Foxconn is serious about their investment in Wisconsin.
The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce says Foxconn will add $78 billion to our state's GDP over the 15-year term of the package. That’s an $18 return for every $1 worth of tax incentives.
There isn't a state in the nation that wouldn't want to be in our shoes right now. Congratulations to Governor Scott Walker and President Donald Trump for making this happen!

Strong Support for Education Savings Accounts

There's strong support across the state for my bi-partisan bill to create Education Savings Accounts. That's the finding of
a poll conducted for the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL). They recently surveyed 1,500 state residents on education issues and found 64% support my bill! The support is strong in rural (66%), suburban ( 67%), and urban areas (71%).
Education savings accounts can help parents pay for textbooks, curriculum, tutors, lessons, fees, and tuition. Who knows how many scientists, engineers, musicians, artists, and community leaders we are missing out on because their family can't afford additional educational opportunities. All students deserve the chance to succeed regardless of their background, zip code, or family's income.
These poll results show the genuine need to create Education Savings Accounts. I look forward to working on this bill again next year.

Child Sales Tax Rebate Sign-up Ends Soon
|
|
Parents with a child aged 18 or younger can claim a
Child Sales Tax Rebate! Families who qualify are eligible for a $100 rebate per child for sales and use tax paid in 2017.
Time is running out, the deadline to file a claim is Monday, July 2, 2018.
So far, more than 500,600 have signed up for the rebate. Click on the picture above to sign up!

- Fifty of Wisconsin's 72 counties met or broke their all-time low unemployment rates in May.
- All 12 of the state's metro areas and all our 32 largest cities have seen a year-over-year drop in unemployment.
- The number of people employed in Wisconsin is at an all-time high of 3,090,200, and the unemployment rate is at all-time low at 2.8% for May.
- Construction wages in Wisconsin are up 7.5% from 2016-2017.
- Wisconsin ranks 7th in manufacturing job creation from 2016-17, and wages are up 15% since 2010.
- Over 85 percent of our population in the state in the prime age group of 25 to 55 is employed.
