Dear Friends,

Congratulations to the 2022 senior class of Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy! All 367 students at the Milwaukee charter school were accepted to colleges and received $7 million in scholarships! In fact, the school has a 100% acceptance rate dating back to 2012. That's an incredible run of success for the school and its students.
Charter schools are public schools that have more freedom in how they educate children. For many families, charters are the best opportunity for their children. In fact, 3.6 million children nationwide attend charter schools. You can find more below about how charters are changing lives for students in Wisconsin.

Charter Schools Deliver
When every graduate is accepted into a college for 10 years straight, there is no doubt that charter schools work. In fact, according to a recent study by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, charter and choice schools perform better in achieving proficiency in learning than traditional schools. Charters are also very effective in serving diverse communities
Supporting charter schools shouldn't be political. Democrat Michael Bloomberg launched a five-year, $750 million effort to help 150,000 children in 20 cities. However, other Democrats like Tony Evers do not support allowing more children to choose charters. In his budget plan, he attempted to curb the number of charter schools in our state, and he vetoed two bills I authored to expand opportunities for families.
Senate Bill 964 & Senate Bill 965 created a process to streamline the replication of high-performing charter schools and create a statewide charter board. Unfortunately, Governor Evers vetoed both of these common-sense bills that would increase opportunities for more students and families statewide.
Successful charter schools like Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy will continue to give kids a chance to succeed. I hope we can make sure more students and families have access to high-performing charter schools in Wisconsin.
