I bet if I start this note with a question of, "Shall we talk some theology?" many of you would move along to the other news herein. Please don't!

Shall we talk some theology?

That's exactly what a group of St. Alban's folks and I did last week when we ventured down to New York and the General Theological Seminary to hear the amazing Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury deliver a full day of lecture on his journey as a Christian.  We were delighted to listen and then discuss his often provocative and revealing wonderings about the nature of God and Go's work in his life....which is of course exactly what theology is.

It's our little group's hope to figure out some good ways to share some of what stimulated us so very much . Please watch for a further invitation to do just this .

For now, consider an opening question of Rowan's (we're all on a first-name basis now!):

"Why should we put our confidence in God? Why should we trust God, whose purposes we cannot begin to fathom?

So, what we learned is that he asks these basic, if impossible questions...and then he tries to answer them, cogently, thoughtfully and from the heart of his own experience! It was quite exciting.

If you're like me, you too might be drawn to wondering about the character and action of God leads to. We are enlivened to imagine and question and talk and share and grow together.

Shall we talk some theology?    Stay tuned...the conversation is far from finished.

See you in church,

Preparation

This year...bring yourself
to Lent

St. Alban's Episcopal Church ... room for everyone .

We often think of the 40 Days of Lent as a season to deny ourselves something so that we may experience (if only symbolically) some of the sacrifice that points us to the power of Holy Week and the grace of Easter.

This year at St. Alban's we are switching the verb for the season. Rather than denying yourself at Lent...I ask that you plan to bring you rself to Lent.

Together, let's bring our focus and energy and time and prayers to a few Lenten practices and adventures that will be memorable, impactful, and will truly prepare us for the incredible story and experience of Holy Week and Easter.

Let's bring our hopes and fears, our prayers for forgiveness, healing and joy to this rich season. Let's bring our ideas for helping out or leaning in, our dreams for caring and growing, for digging deep and reaching up.

How can we bring ourselves to Lent and prepare for Holy Week? Read more about our plans here.

 This Sunday
The Rev. Tim Boggs is preaching Sunday, February 24th.  Join him to chat and question on what you heard in his sermon...after the 9:30 am service .
All ideas and questions welcomed.

Family Promise Update
Dear St. Alban's Family Promise Volunteers and Community,
I am so excited to report that we finished up another successful week of Family Promise, February 3-10, at Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church.

This would not have been possible with out your tireless volunteer efforts. We had two families from Angola and one from Maine. We had kids that were 1 years old to fourteen years old.

The dinners that were provided and cooked by many of you were delicious! The variety and healthy options were greatly appreciated.
